Policeman was definitely driving more recklessly to keep up. The guy doing the runner seemed to be riding pretty safely. Obviously kept his head cool.

and yes the police rider was more risky and seemed to be having more trouble. I love the commen "he is not a competent rider, not competent in the wet..." he looked pretty competent to me lol.

A motorcyclist filmed by an unmarked Sussex Police motorcycle travelling in excess of 140mph on the A21.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving and was sentenced to a two year suspended prison sentence, disqualified from driving for two years (with the requirement to take an extended test), given 240 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay costs.

Bugger, and yet the cop who did everything the same and worse was just doing his job. Sometimes they have a fun job don't they

I've got to agree that the cops driving was so much more risky than the riders....... I winced when he squezzed through the gaps in the face of oncoming traffic just to keep up. I am not for a moment excusing the riders behaviour. Very naughty indeed

I must say it is fairly questionable to behave like the cops did in that video. If they want to book him for something, put on the lights, pull him over (or give chase if that's what happens) and give him his fine.

How can they possibly justify - because I am sure they will argue that the rider being followed behaved dangerously - that they let that dangerous situation persist for that long (and maybe even helped to escalate it).

Unless a police vehicle is using lights and sirens they should have to adhere to the road rules just like all other motorists and be held accountable for any breach thereof - even more so since they ought to be setting an example.

The vehicle-mounted video camera is a good feature though. No disputing the facts in court then.

The cop does have his lights on at some stages, when he's going down the motorway he flashes them to get traffic to move.

How can the cop call the riders bend assessment not that good when the cop appears to be following the same lines? And that close call with the other biker made me wince.

From the biker cops commentary I get the impression that he is a dick. He mentions that the bike is undertaking, then he mentions that the bike forced a vehicle to change lanes - so how do you get past a slower vehicle in lane 2 without getting them to change to lane 1 or going to lane 1 yourself? Passing on the solid white lines, passing in the face of oncoming traffic - is he talking about the bike he is following or himself? Ditto for "almost hit an oncoming bike".

The thing I don't get is this - how can it be so dangerous for the bike being followed to ride the way he did, but fine for the cop to follow and ride the same/worse? Right near the start the cop said he was comfortable following the other guy - it seemed to me that with the wet roads the biker was not pushing hard through the corners and was taking less risks to pass than the cop behind him.

I will concede that he was definitely caught exceeding the speed limit though, I guess he deserved a fine for that.

What interests me is the claimed speed
where did the rider being chased do 140mph?
We all know that a bike chaseing is the faster (in speed, not skill) bike.
I would allthough the chased bike did exceed 100mph, but not 140mph
that was the speed the cop had to do to catch him after being slowed down, almost to a stop, by other road users.

There were several overtaking manovers by the cop that were plain dangerous

This is terrible - pure entrapment baiting and hunting by riding dangerously themselves, encouraging bikes and geeing them on.
Cop seems to be a poorly skilled hoon on a santimonious tip himself. Holier than thou.

None of the examples seem to show the outright dangerous driving that should be picked up on and controlled. Nice to see resources going into looking for bikers in the affluent middle-years market, where they will pay up no problem.

No wonder the police manage in the UK are rapidly alienating their natural constituency. And yet when my grandmother was killed by a drunk driver with a history of not paying motoring fines he was slapped on the wrist and the duty sargeant said "she had a good innings anyway". Great job.
