Well at least I opened the can of worms for you all. The MV did only run the 19.1km course, but the guy on the R1 (Baron) who was 17s adrift is one of the 'Ring' experts so I'm still impressed with the MVs time. I have done an 8:17.8 on the 20.853km course on a stock 750 but there was lots of traffic. Anything that goes 7:01.8 is mindbuggeringly fast ...big ups to the Gixxer rider too, although that bike is quite modified, probably as quick as most 1000 stockers. Nothing will ever (?????) come close to Bellof's time in the 956 tho.

I've been thinking about this for a while. If cost were no object, and you were able to build the ultimate bike - by this I mean something in the order of the P3 SuperLight GSXR600 - what would you use as the base?

I'd use a k7/8 GSXR750, and give it the superlight build. I'd use the same parts, but I'd add a carbon tank (8 litres max), larger airbox, Yoshi cams, full race system. I'd also go to the gym and lose the last 5 kg.

I've spent time and money on Scoot, but the reality is that a litre is absolute overkill, a thermonuclear device when a hammer would suffice. Unless you're Valentino, it's difficult to get close to the limit, and impossible on the street...
It’s diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; it’s life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.

Okay, so the lap record is 7.17 on a K8 GSXR600. That is backed up with a video evidencing the laptime.

So, that puts the bike second behind the Radical SR8 (whatever the fuck that is). The first real world (ish) car is the GTR at 7.27. So, I guess that answers that question.

Interesting, the MV August time is listed as 7.01 on this page - which is the only place I've seen that reported.
I do beleive the corvette zr1 [new cart sprung beast] has set down a faster lap than the gt-r on its nive potenza re80 [I think] semi slicks. Fastbikesmag and their gixxer 600 superlight was nice, 120hp at the wheel apparently and a shit load less weight and 6 pot calipers
