    A beer I really didn't want...

Well was out and about with the Hornet Swarm this evening. Had a lovely dinner to kick off the eve, a great ride round various suburbs, and then went round Maraetai and through to Clevedon to top the night off. After a chinwag at Clevedon, we decided to go to Dennys for waffles (which they didnt have after all, rather miffed about that!)

So on we rode, up [insert road name here] toward the Ardmore airport. Cruising along at about 90-100, no hurry. Oncoming vehicle (car or van i'm not 100% sure), as the headlights pass there's an almighty THUMP and it feels like a rotten orange or something has just exploded on my arm or something, an almighty wallop that if i were not such a solid strong fella would have ripped my arm clean off the bars (only just held as it was). Took a second to compute, bike still rolling okay, the bastards must have thrown something at me.
Why can i smell really stinky cheap domestic beer all of a sudden?
    Oh, the bastards!!!
Reach for brake lever to slow and pull over, find said lever pointing more skyward than normal, and somewhat sticky. Luckily it works sufficiently well to pull me to a halt to investigate.

Right mirror took the brunt of the hit, crushed backside, smashed and ejected face of it, twisted an already tightened stalk right backward, and then twisted the whole switchblock and lever assembly backward. The can then proceeded onward to smack me very solidly in the bicep, where i am now rather tender.

Why the hell would someone throw a full beer can at a motorcyclist?
And why would they throw it at bike #2 in a line of 5. Did they think they'd get away without a worry?
Unfortunately by the time we sortof comprehended what the hell had just happened, and 2 of the lads turned back to give chase, they were nowhere to be seen. Buggers...

Mirror can be replaced, no biggie...
Re-adjust switchblock, lever seems to be functioning okay again, no biggie...
My leather jacket now wreaks of cheap domestic beer, grrr...

Put a damper on an otherwise wonderful evenings ride, and definitely a beer i could have done without.

(Sorry for the poor quality pics, camera phone in the dark doesnt really cut it)

I've never had waffles before, hence the temptation to just bugger off home at 10pm was overcome on the promise of waffles. Double owned

Thats a bit sobering, bud. I hate to think of the outcome if his aim was a little better and you had an open-faced helmet on.

Once you are on a bigger noisier bike they tend not to fuck wit joo then.

Christ, what a terrible tale. It could have been so much worse...glad you are such a staunch fellow and that the bike will be okay. There are some losers out there. It would have been great to smash them up after they did something like that, but probably just as well you didn't catch them cause the cops would undoubtably charge you for assault!

The thing was, I was lead rider, came onto the straight ... dipped my high beams, the car did the same thing ... wasn't till I was about to go around a left hand bend when the lack of lights in my mirrors was a bit of a concern

Had to ride a bit to find a safe place to u-turn and came back to see TOTO and gremlin roaring off like avenging angels ...

A natter with badger8 and Sharry filled in details and it was a quick pootle to my place to sort out some quick mirror changes!

Mmmm Denny's ... no waffles guess I will have to pull out my waffle iron and organise a waffle ride and meet!
