Why nick somones plate to do a drive-off from a "service" station? Haven't people heard of computer printers? Print out a rego and then do a drive-off. Saves stealing a rego plate and it also will not show up as stolen...

In fact, get some rego's from the local police cars...

Some of the BP's I wont mention which ones have moved on from that technology already, the new technology involves multiple self tracking camera's, not just the front either, they not only OCR the plates against the database they have adopted facial recognition to the moving body outside the vehicle, this is not captured in picture form, so no breach in privacy, its just a string of numbers, similar to fingerprint recognition, no prints stored.
If all boxes are ticked the pump will activate, you don't even get the chance to pump. Of course if the system cant get what it needs it reverts to the cashier to authorise.
We use similar camera systems for gate authorisation, with camera to camera hand over, a vehicle and its occupants are always followed around the exterior of the building.

    c) freakn system kept crashing

[QUOTE=Mully;1129200350]Just watching the News - apparently BP Stations are installing plate recognition technology to cut the petrol on the pump with a previous drive-off.

What's wrong with installing IGNITION buttons on the petrol pumps.....free spark with every stolen tank.

Cool, now they can automatically track your vehicle anywhere in the country. I wonder who they will sell that information to..

Best system I ever saw was 5 years ago in the UK on my hols. A supermarket servo had put in those barriers that rose up from the floor like in car parks. You lowered them with the bar code from the till receipt.

    No docket, no exit.

and expensive, and a real pain in the ass that you cannot get your car out when you drop your receipt, or it breaks down with your car locked in there.

What? just don't go to BP if you're gonna steal. Stuff switching plates just for the convenience of being able to steal fuel from BP.

i think its a great idea, though i do think if plates are stolen, the former owner of those plates should not be associated with them when they buy a new car [as in the case last night]
some ass tried to steal the plate off my former bosses bike, while it was parked at work, which at the time was bp. LOL. thankfully, they were disturbed and didnt get it, though it was ripped where they tried to get it off without taking the bolts and stuff out first

be good to see other servos bring in the same technology.
