Oh FFS, painting her fingernails, fuck me what next! Throw the book at the silly bitch. When will people wake up to the fact that when they are driving or riding for that matter, you are basically in charge of a leathal weapon, a machine that in a blink of an eye could kill you and/or someone else if you aren't on to it? It's like running about with a loaded gun, if you're not careful eventually you'll blow your head off. I see this sort of shit all the time and it really gets on my tits (ummm, can you tell?).

The problem with cars is that they are becoming quieter and more insulated form the outside world. That means people will focus on their immediate (ie in cage) surroundings more and more - neglecting what is really important (ie. outside). Riding a motorcycle wakes you up to that fact - it's like taking the red pill Neo.

And when the fuck are they going to ban non-hands free use of mobile phones in cars. The amount of muppets you see texting while driving is unreal.

I totally agree Trudes. A loss of life for the painting of nails, how Bloody dumb can you get. I see it all the time woman driving along putting make up on or doing their hair and men shaving. Do they think that multi tasking while driving isnt going to end in a disaster?.
Who needs people like that on our roads as there are enough hazards out there without wanting anymore.
I hope they throw the nail polish at her.

The other week I was driving into town down SH1 and noticed a car in the left lane ahead of me driving veeeery erratically. Stopping and starting and weaving all over the road between the lanes.

I figured that the driver must be ill or VERY pissed and as the traffic in my lane was moving forward I caught up to the car reasonably quickly and with concern checked out the driver to make sure they were ok.

Words cannot convey the emotion I was choked with when I saw that the woman driver was eating a bowl of cereal (one hand on the bowl the other using the spoon) and had a cup of coffee tucked between her legs (I have the advantage of height in the van).

I blasted the horn at her and made as if to drive the van at her car, but she was obviously used to such treatment and didn't really raise an eyebrow (although I swear she sloshed her cereal! ) - so for good measure I *555'd as well.

They should change the law so that if you are caught driving while on your mobile, applying make-up, reading the paper etc. Instant loss of licence for 3 months.

I nearly been hit twice in the last 7 weeks by drivers who cut around corners (suppose to give way) with a cell phone in 1 hand and ear.

a solution would be a second road network which completely segregated four wheeled (slow moving and speed controlled) transport from two wheeled (licensed for any speed) traffic

then they could be left to play dodgems with themselves

It's already been proven that driving while talking on a cellphone causes you to drive more erratically than being over the limit.
There should already be a fucking law against this shit.

Put the stupid bitch in jail.
    It's manslaughter, plain and simple.
It's lke walking around with a gun, pulling the trigger periodically, and is only a matter of time until the gun is pointed at someone.
There is so fucking safety button on cars. (EDIT Or any other vehicle, for that matter.
Some people just can't seem to comprehend that they do not have the right to be unoffended in their lives.

Jail bait is what she is and any other moron who refusess to do their job when driving a car! Prosecuted to the full extent of the law no less.

Serious law reform and harsh penalties (zero tolerence) for not obeying the law as outlined when you are issued your license and are in control of a vehicle is needed.

Then penalise the shyte outta them to cover the cost of their time in jail so it doesnt come out of our taxes.

    Oh, and world peace.

Lake Zurich nail-painting crash that killed motorcyclist ruled accidental By Phil Collins and Mick Zawislak | Daily Herald Staff Published: 5/5/2009 12:14 AM

The death of a Lake Zurich motorcyclist, killed when she was struck at a traffic light by a driver painting her fingernails, has been ruled an accident, authorities said Monday.

The autopsy found Anita Zaffke, 56, died of internal injuries to her chest and abdomen and a fractured spine after the crash Saturday afternoon, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said.

Keller also said a toxicology test run on the driver, Lora L. Hunt, 48, of Morris, was negative. Police do not suspect alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash, Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said.
Curran said Hunt experienced "a momentary lapse" and was not paying attention.

"We can all learn from this in the sense that cars are dangerous instruments. We need to be careful, always," he said.
Zaffke, who was wearing a helmet, was riding her Honda Shadow motorcycle south on Rand Road when she stopped at a yellow traffic signal at Old McHenry Road near Lake Zurich. Hunt told police she was painting her fingernails as she drove her Chevy Impala toward the intersection and did not see Zaffke until after she hit her, authorities said.

Hunt's attorney Ragan Freitag told ABC 7 that she has not seen the police report and won't comment on whether Hunt was painting her nails while driving. "At this point she is really distressed. There are some things she remembers and some things she doesn't - she is distraught over this," Freitag told ABC 7.
Zaffke and her motorcycle were pushed forward a few hundred feet by the force of the impact, authorities said.
ABC 7 reported Monday family members said Zaffke was heading from her son's Waukegan apartment to her home. They had been talking about plans for Mother's Day.
"I was pretty much in disbelief at first," said Greg Zaffke, Anita Zaffke's son. "We went up to the intersection, just went up and down, to try to see how this could possibly have happened."
Lake County sheriff's office spokesman Sgt. Christopher Thompson said Hunt has been charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Curran said the accident would be reconstructed as part of the investigation. Findings will be turned over to the Lake County state's attorney's office for a determination of whether additional charges are warranted, possibly by the end of the week.
"That's going to be the state's attorney's office call," Curran said. "They'll look at everything including the rate of speed."
Curran said there were no skid marks at the accident scene, where the speed limit is 55 mph.
No additional details about the accident are expected to be available until the end of the week when the investigation is finished and the case is turned over to the Lake County state's attorney's office, Thompson added.
Greg Zaffke now wears black nail polish to bring attention to the need for stricter penalties for people who hurt motorcyclists like his mom, according to ABC 7.
"I'm sure there are motorcycle groups who would like to hear about this story and potentially help us get the story out," he said.

I'd be up for a campaign (tilting at windmills) where we all paint our left thumbnail black, or something.
