The guys at McIvor suggested i would be pushing my luck to get anything in that size from Bridgestone, that they were moving away from odd ball sizes like the 16" rim because most manufacturers had given that size up as a bad idea.

When i called Cycletreads they were suggesting Pirelli/conti/Dunlop qualifiers (which the bike currently wears) when i asked if bridgestone or michelin had anything available he recomended the Battleaxe bt014 which they had in stock they offered to call the supplier to see if michelin had any power pilots in stock but i've perviously used battleaxes before and never had any reason to complain, good wear and warm up reasonably quickly.

Something that I suppose could be an issue, I think i've only ever seen one other Hornet floating around Dunedin, im sure there has to be more, but if demand for that tire down here is small then i supposes theres no reason to keep it stocked on a just in case someone happens to need it basis.

There are heaps of the wee Hornets around NZ - very popular.

As far as stocking the tyre goes - fair enough, however they can order from the supplier and have a suitable tyre overnight or at least within 48 hours for you from the national stocker.

You would think that... *shrugs* I got what i wanted in the end.

They'll get a few bucks outta me when I take it to them to have the tyre fitted.

Just came across a tyre test in a UK magazine. The test bike was a Yamaha FZ1 which should be fairly close to the weight and configuration of the Hornet.

I've summarised the results in the attached jpeg but the full article is on the November 2008 copy of Bike.

Of course, it's what you're personally happy with which matters most, plus the way you ride and what sort and weight of bike you have. Interesting nonetheless.
