Why is stating "indicated" speed a factor? Do bikes tend to read high at top speed?

most speedos tend to be off by around 10 - 15%, so the faster you go the further out they become. fitting a speedo healer or using a gps is the best way to get your true speed

155 mph on a ZX-7R and it was still going strong.

on topic a bit more, i have had just under 140 mph (225 kph) on a 96 CBR600 and i don't think it would have gone much further.

Yes some do. A little hand held GPS unit will confirm or deny actual speed.

They cost about $200... They give other important stuff too.

Thats because its overreading by abou 15% as youve changed your gearing and dont have a speedohealer

Ive only had speedohealers on two bikes:
TL1000S - 255kph ACTUAL (downgeared like hell, got there real quick)
FZ6N - 213kph ACTUAL (havent had chance to do a top speed run)

2000 YZR500, 290KPH at Phillip Island (according to the gearing/revs at the time). Damn near wet myself. Still had lots more to go. Big boys did 320.

    Gawd.

    Suzuki GP100 - 73mph
    Suzuki X5 - 97mph
    FZ400N - 139mph.
    Kawasaki GPX600 - 138mph
    TDM850 - 134mph
    CBR600 Hurricane - 135mph
CBR400 - dunno...track gearing limits it in top.
    748r - 161mph

    But the two scariest:-

Drew's new bike - Fuck knows but I bottled it when it was still wheelying in 5th gear. Didn't really want to crash it before he took delivery of it.
Tuned to fuck Genesis 1000 - 176mph incidated going along the M9 out of Edinburgh. But I was pillion
