Wether he wants that, or just to plod along on trails i dont know, but in that case maybe a kdx [dont start up that kdx bullshit] or drz or something may be better?
My missus is learning on a CR80 and she had never ridden a bike before in her life when we got it for her. When she started it was hard for her to grasp the concept of revving it out and gaining throttle and clutch control, but she loves the weight of the bike. Now she is away and even I have to keep up with her around some of the tracks at woodhill....

My sister is going through the re-learning thing and she is also on a CR80, with no problems...

    2. 07+ 250sx [because they look cool, and the later ones are supposed to be pretty good]
    3. 05+ cr250 [because i love hondas, they are suposed to be crap stock though and detonate and have jetting problems (waiting for all the kb cr250 riders to add their 2c here)]
    4. 07+ kx250 [ridden one many times, vibrated like fuck and just never felt right, hated to jump it, front wheel would always go towards the moon, big mid range hit and fuck all anywhere else]
    5. any rm250 [I hate yellow and no-one makes aftermarket standard sized tanks ahaha, not the nicest looking bike either, but are aparantly pretty good - yellow was not an option though lol]
yeah, i dont really hav any brand preference, kawasaki has been good, fucked up a few of my parts orders though.. but not to many complaints!

hmm, fully got no idea where to start aye. Will just sell my bike first and see what comes along aye, but hope my bike sells quick, keen to come hit those ramps with you. Want to try get a bike thats newer then mine, slowly trade my way up the ladder to a brand new bike in the future hopefully!

would be great to find a deal like you got aye! sounds mint! Your bike felt awsome to ride, even in that muck but I havnt ridden anything else to compare it to..
My choice is what I choose to do,
And if I'm causing no harm, it shouldn't bother you.

    LOL the bike brand (mas)debate

I got a CR cause I had a RM and the frame would rust up all the time. Not saying that Alloy is prefect and its only meant to last somehting like 10 years, but its just so much easier to care for. I can't be bothered with paint and stupid ugly frame guards.

As for the CRs stock and 98 gas thing, well any biuke goes stink without a pipe. to me its one of the first things you get!!! and my bike ran fine on stale fuel... LOL mind you with fresh gas it was wanting to keep the front wheel in the air all the time!! The other cool think about the Hondas is the electronic power valve. I think that is such a better system. Mine has not had detonation issues and the power is really even through the range for a 2 stroke. its got so much bottom end!

Can't deny the YZ's are good bikes, but those blue plastics look shit really quick. Crease marks show up really bad. I've mangled my front mud guard and in the red it hardly shows up. Easy fix though, new plastics!!

Kawa's well I've not ridden too many KX's, but Rupes KXF is a nice bike. Chalk and Cheese though....

Suzi's well Danger bangs on about them being great bikes and stuff, but my old RM was a pig so I got put off Suzi's. They just look old too.....

KTM's well they are dam nice looking bikes. I was so close to getting one but the guy selling it was being a dick about the price so I got my CR which was like new (ahem still is...)

My advice is ride a few bikes and see what you like. In my opinion, try to judge bikes more on power delivery as the ergonomics are settable and you don't know if someone has altered the suspension etc. As an example, Sams 06 CR feels so different to ride to my 04, but power feels the same.

10 years? i see plenty of af generation 1 cr's around the place...

yeah the plastics look crap after a crash... but its a small price to pay, i love the motor. considering going white soon anyway.

i dunno what the deal with the cr's is, they are probably the nicest looking bike in existance [imo], but everywhere i read said the 02 onwards motors werent very good... cant remeber why. i also got put off as the local gas station only sells up to 95 gas, couldnt be bothered going to hamilton every time i want to go for a ride. You must have got a good cr then, aparantly they arnt all the same, some run 95-96 fine, and others detonate on anything but race fuel

i can never remember the frame rusting on my old rm125 though...

Yeah I've got an 05 CR250 and it's sweet. Has an FMF gnarly pipe and shorty on it, sounds SAWEET and has a mint power right thru the rev range (it will lift the front easily in every gear). Gotta be the sexiest bikes on the market (*although the new KXF's look pretty hot too).

YZ's can't be faulted, just an all round solid bike.
RM's also are mint bikes, I wasn't sure if I wanted a 2T until I rode my mates 07 RM250 although they do look a bit prehistoric with the steel frame.
still a lil unsure on the green bikes as I've had a couple mates had late model KX125's and both had a few issues but then again Climintie has his and it's mint

    lol, heres my 2c!

    standard = crap, true.
detonation happens on any fuel shitter than 98 - true

jetting problems? well mine gets ridden in gisborne (sea level) and taupo (fairly high) and wairouru (fucken high) in both summer and winter, relatively fast mx racing to cruising on trails, never an issue, no spooge, no fouled plugs, no leaning out

and i only replace my spark plugs every 12 months for the last 2 years, and its only because its done 12 months use- not that its fucked.

the 10 year frame.. dunno where cheese read that but theres plenty of old ones kicking around

I'm not usre if its 10 years, but the stress on Ali frames means they won't last a long long time.
