    for those that are interested...

there is a vacuum line between the inlet manifold and the oil pump which presumably increases oil volume when low vacuum occurs. this had a kink in it.

With just a ride around the block it seems better - need to go and test it properly....

    hmmmmm

It could work the other way; reduces oil under high vacuum conditions? Your problem is excess oil at low-load, init?
    Cheers,

Or turns the oil pump on only if there's a vacuum?

    same difference - I think?

high vacuum = less oil than low vacuum
therefore kinked line = no vacuum = too much oil except at full throttle

or have I fooked up my logic?

Ah yep, you are right. This failure will cause it to add excessive oil at high vacuum, as the blocked line will act like a low vacuum signal, whichever base the pump works from.

In fact the oil pump could be deliberately set up this way, so that signal failure causes excessive oil rather than engine seizure!
    Cheers,
    Colin

I thought we agreed that since you cast aspersions at my choice of ride over in the KTM thread, you weren't allowed to use anything that I may have let slip regarding de-smoking your smoker.
Now go and put it back the way it was.
    Go on!!!!
    Now!!!

I suppose, in keeping with the "highly strung" emotional state of most DR riders (due to the stress of trying to fit their DR's into the closet to keep them company) that this sort of tirade is not unexpected.

    You might be right.
But then it's a lot like sound over substance "look at me" loud mufflers on KLR's don't you think?

Quite so, but then you started it!

In any case, I have a very large closet and getting the DR in there is completely stress free. Getting it around the 180 corner in the stairs is another matter.

More importantly - did unkinking your hose get the Delerium Tremens sorted out so that I can charge you a beer for services rendered?

Since you're dodging the question, I'll take it as a yes and a Guiness as a chaser thank you.
