I've had confirmation from the expert.
That's the hut alright.
It's the one made from old printing press alloy sheet.
Now to actually get there...
As Ed Hillary would say.....
Well, we knocked the bastard off
Good on ya Woody, great tag, all in the name of adventure.
Jesus that Wairoa gorge is a miserable cold place in winter, real purdy for adventure motorsickles tho.
We don't need maps, just the enthusiasm to go exploring, and a bit of local knowledge!
Nelson's version of "CNUT hill" was kinda slick and icy in parts, I wouldn't recommend it to any noobs trying it.
In that matter I wouldn't recommend it for heavy KLR's either, Woody you're a legend. I skated down it on my worn out knobblies, found the tag, and tried to get back up CNUT hill but my rooted tyres were spinning up, so back along plan B.... the wet route. How many river crossing was that, 6 or 7? I dunno, lost count, maybe in was 8.
Bloody permafrost everywhere, some good ice in the puddles, and hoar frost along the river where the sun don't shine.
Note to self.... don't go there with tyres like mine. I must change these soon!
Well, how do you explain where this tag is .... I GPS mapped the route so will try and download it onto onto Google earth and show ya all.
Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Wairoa Gorge pics
1. Can I go first, I wanna break the ice!
2. Woody was right, the rivers will clean the bike. Beautiful place.
3. Permafrost
4. Frozen all the way to the water
Just when you think nordie's got it...
BAM and the tag is gone.....
Common ya scoota-lovn freak give us something easy to find but hard to get too for the weekend, I need some entertainment.

I dunno if I can do a dirt tag this weekend, I gotta work.
I could do a new one closer to home tomorrow, or let you guys go out to Wairoa to do this one. It's a great ride, and well worth a look anyway. We are spoiled for good riding around here really.
Wear thick wool socks in ya boots so when ya feet get wet they stay warm. And there is one hole in one of the 7 river crossing that has the potential to drown a bike. And one puddle that is verrrrrry deep. It would be too easy to tell you which one!![]()
Download the file from the GPS to the PC as a GPX file (assuming your have a Garmin GPS) then when you go to open a file in google earth just change the file type to GPS. If you dont have any software on your PC for talking to a GPS EasyGPS is a simply option.
Cheers R

Thanks crazyfrog for getting it , i was starting to feel bad.
I actually went in the way you came out cos I wasn't sure if I went down the hill I would get back up again if the river way was unpassable. tried getting up the hill but only made it to the corner before running out of traction, then had to turn and scoot down. It is pretty rutted so I spose once you started going down you were committed. Well done. You are right there are a couple of deep holes in the river, and a couple of good rocks to belly out on.
Anyone wanna go for a look on Sunday??
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
Go on CF i dare ya, i wanna see the donkey(s)![]()
