Had a little play around Westley Rd. It ends up 5km later at the Duckpond Summit and there's a downhill singletrack off it too.

    Tagged??? Scooterboy strikes again!

Well I think I've got it out at Cable Bay, but Nordie can confirm. Original tag was a bit hard to pinpoint due sunstrike etc. So many beaches around here with stones on 'em too, and tide levels make a small difference.

Nice morning so a short blast, managed average speed on 62.3kmph, not bad on the liddle fiddy. Crusing speed was 65kmph, those Cable Bay corners downed the average a bit. Top speed was 81kmph down Gentle Annie, go the scoot!

Planning a wee 1500km ride this year on the scoot, encompassing a few adv routes, so am in training as we speak. The adventures will continue......

    Pic1: Tag spot, Cable Bay
Pic2: Most photographed boat in Nelson Haven.
Pic3: Cable Bay drive......just lurvly panorama.

Well done nice pics Crazyfrog. I take it the dinghy isn't the next tag?
It is amazing how many people stop along the drive to take pics of the dinghy.

What would have been classic would have been a pic next to the tarp covered roadsign by the aborted roadworks. Someone sprayed "Wrecked road ahead" on it over the weekend. Chuckled all the way into town. By monday opus or similar had sprayed over it.
I have a strong desire to nip out after dark with a spray can

What I wonder about is why do they dig up such a long distance of road then leave it for a couple of months before working on it or trying to finish it. Wouldn't it be better to do shorter lengths. The end product still looks shit ( well outside our place anyway).

Or maybe they get over enthusiast about ripping the stuff off like us taking bikes apart and leaving the frames & parts to ferment for a while

They woulda started the job prior to the end of the financial year (31 March) to use up budgets etc apparently.

Are you talking about the bits of the passing lanes along Atawhai Drive (SH6) that have been patched (large areas that are at a different level to old pavement surface)? That is some seriously crappy work that should be fixed up ASAP. Well it was crap when I was in NN a few weeks back. Ground conditions there are probably not that great so they may be trying to get it through winter before fixing it properly but it is still in a really shitty condition.

I'm not 100% sure if the Nelson/Tasman state highways are managed by the Wellington office or the "special" Marlborough office. I'd be ringing the Wellington Office on 04 894 5200 and asking to talk to the Nelson Area Engineer and giving them an earful. I spoke with the area engineers down here about the quality of the work up that way and they were not very complimentary.

yeah but I'm running high pressures in my tyres at the moment...

Ryan that's the bits we're talking about. I agree that the base must be crap or there must be a bit of movement there cos they reseal it everyother year & looks crap every time they do it. Even the councillors are bloody sick of looking at it.

    New tag for ya's

    New tag for ya all.
Get your track maps out, it's an old NZFS track, should be acessable on most ADV bikes, but knobblies recommended.
Adventurous riders may have already found this one while out and about.
This one is not too far from town, will give clues if required.

    Go forth and conquer!
