There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.
El Scooto's (my bro) S10 is back on TM also. Red rocker cover is the give away. Cheeky bugger swapped my Wilbers shock for a stocker when I sold my S10 and then sold his bike with it (not that it is any good to me anyway). Pretty decently suspended bike for a 20 year old. $5k might be a little steep though.
Also I don't know about the @ sounding better than the S10. El's bike with an arrow can and the baffle removed sounded bloody good along the beach at Kaitorete spit.
Cheers R

yeah I know... I had a blast too despite f*cking the f*ck out of my bike, ha. I preserved it before leaving for Africa and its still sitting in the shed pretty much cleaned but still busted up from the WAR. Infact my new Reg Rect arrived today from the UK. Its the biggest, toughest, meanest MOSFET RR I could find from Electrex.co.uk. Oh, that and my new CDI - the original one is fine, but this one apparently gives improved track performance. So we shall see...on the road of course!
So in short, I have a bit of electrical work to do, some plastic rebuilding and painting to do and new headlight frame to get fabbed up...and the 100,000 km tear-down can wait till next winter...
You never know though, magic might happen!

OK, So I am almost done repairing the fairings on the RD04. Its been a slow process, stripping off the vinyl stickers (brittle and crappy at this age!) and sanding back the paint, filling the nicks, re-bonding the cracks, completely rebuilding my left rear side fairing...anyhoo...
So the time is getting close where I'm going to have to commit to a new colour for the bike. I have a couple of finalists that I welcome some feedback on.
Firstly, I have bought a set of black RD07 vinyl decals from the UK (well two sets actually just to be safe). Does away withe the 80's looking stylised "Africa Twin" writing that we know so well and will help give it a modern look.
So the base colour...
I like what one guy has done because its simple and it retains a lot of the originality of the RD03/RD04 red & blue colour scheme. The colours should be simple enough and this is important for me when it comes to repairs etc etc. Maybe a little boring, but traditional and functional and in keeping with the distinguishable AT looks.
The second contender is inspired by late 1960's / early 70's muscle cars and it's Vitamin C orange. One guy has a colour scheme close to it below, but he's maybe gone a little too close to KTM. I think the black decals on Vitamin C will look pretty hot and certainly unique. Picture of a Charger below shows how good the Vit C looks with black trim. Bike certainly has the sound to pull it off. Haven't looked at paint supply yet, but I have the colour code for Vit C so it will be a custom batch I guess at some panel & paint place. Not so easy to maintain perhaps, and I'm probably always going to be hearing naff KTM jokes...but I do like the idea of the muscle look.
SO! Its open to the floor for comments and thoughts!

White.....definitely
The orange just looks wrong IMHO
what about some army camo colours,
i saw a klr in camo in the states, it kinda made the klr look cool

Bollocks, get of your arse and go get it
Actually, I was toying with Olive Drab (or Desert Sand). But cam when you're in the army is like being a janitor and wearing your overalls out to dinner if you know what I mean. Olive Drab could look OK with the black decals - I have seen one done like that and it looked pretty good. We don't use it much anymore except on the pinzgauer and LAV.
So, Olive Drab is a maybe...but visibility on the road is a concern. One of the reasons I like the white actually - better road safety.

Orange = bad, too ktm wannabe. Looks good on the Charger tho. Mine was a dark blue one.
What about Red-White-Green like a MHR replica.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
