Thats what I did when I stripped mine for a full rebuild and found that the tubes cant be replaced.
I just replaced the needles from memory and drilled a hole in the slide ,makes them a bit more responsive.
Didnt know that 'mystery bit' came out though...you did well there!

    Shitballs that's tidy!

Unfortunately, If i was to own that bike, I'd have it looking like a dog-eared DRZ400 within 12 months, haha. The only limitation of Africa Twin's these days is the expense in spare parts from O'seas. Not thaaat expensive really (compared to an orange crush), but a factor. Still, that bike will have another 300,000 + km in her. Ha, even saying that sounds awesome. Good spotting.

Yep, too tidy really, hopefully someone gets hold of it and uses it properly.
Could only justify that sort of money if it was a low k early model tho.

The jet needle (parts #20 and 21 on the exploded parts diagram) slides in to this tube and needle and seat (don't know what else to call it) both have wear.

Pic 3 is of the jet needle poking through the hole where the mystery tube was removed from.

Below pic is mystery bit next to the new "Holder, Needle Jet - part 23" item listed on the exploded view.

It's a real mystery to us, we even can't see it on the parts diagram.
Hey TA, I'm still running rich even on my newer carbs and they are dialled and balanced, chokes are blanked off etc etc. Idles like a kitten but just runs rich over all. Actually a bit less power than my original carbs I swapped out... Anyway, I think the only thing that is left is this unlisted / non-replaceable part. Ie the emulsion tube in each carb. I came across this website http://www.factorypro.com/products/J...hin,%20buy.htm. Have a look at it. They don't list anything for our Hondas but they may well be able to make something up or know it is a common part with some other bikes' carbs. As a further note, I have a new air filter, checked the float height in each bowl and they are in spec. The only other thing that may be an issue is my after market fuel pump...it may pump too fast or too much pressure. Regardless, the tubes are ovalised, so immediately I think that is my persistent issue.

    New XRV Fan: Intro-USA-Nov/Dec Tour-RD04-Bike Swap-Rental-BuySell-Trip Pix

Hello Kiwi Bikers and XRV Fans!

I am very happy to learn of the Kiwi Bikers forum and am thrilled to learn of a sub-forum for the XRV Africa Twins.
It is great to be among like-minded adv riders! ('You' are now on my web browser's favorites bar.)

    Short Intro:
This is my first post and I am writing from the United States.
I am the proud owner of two RD04 XRV750's and live in southern California.
When time permits, I will read the 25 pages of this forum to hopefully learn of a few tips.
I'll share a few of my own as well. If possible, I'll post a photograph of each of my XRV's.

While searching NZ classified ads, I was surprised how few XRV were for sale. In fact, I was curious to learn if the XRVs were ever imported to NZ.
Much to my pleasant surprise, I learn of this site and a dedicated sub-forum.

In case you were not aware, the XRV's were never sold in the United States. There are just a hand-full of them across the country.
There are even fewer in California due to the emission restrictions. I was fortunate to find a very clean 1990 model that was import by a military service member.

If you are wondering why I am browsing NZ websites, I am interested in touring NZ for a couple months after Oct 20th.
My itinerary is still evolving, but one promising version resembles the following:

    Nov-Dec: New Zealand
    Dec/Jan/Feb: SE Asia
Mar/April: China (Southern-rare opportunity ride with Chinese friends; borrow or buy & sell)
    May/Jun/July: Australia
    Aug/Sept: India (Himalayas)

Recently, I have been corresponding with another Kiwi rider on the Horizon Unlimited forum about sharing a tour across Thailand and Myanmar. Before committing to a tour with him, I have a few critical questions that may affect my decision to commit to the tour.

In order to avoid excessive shipping costs, I am considering the option of buying an XRV in NZ and using it to tour AUS and northern India. I am still researching the possibility of traveling abroad with a NZ titled motorcycle.

Here are a few questions/requests that I hope someone may be able to answer/provide:

Q/R1: Please recommend a couple popular websites for motorcycle classified ads where XRV750's may frequently become available. I already checked the Bike Trader.

Q/R2: Please recommend a shipping company with routes to Malaysia. If any can provide recent costs that would be great. Is $1400 US or $2000 NZ reasonable?

Q/R3: I read a post on this forum about a non-Kiwi rider experiencing complications with a carnet for Australia after buying a m/c in NZ. I will contact North America's carnet office about a scenario of an American buying a NZ motorcycle and wishing to obtain a carnet for Aus, SE Asia & India. Any thoughts?

Q/R4: The following sentence makes me feel like a young single parent seeking a babysitter for a new born....

Are there any taller than average Kiwi's interested in a bike swap or bike share? My XRV is setup for taller riders and there is a lot to explore within a couple days ride from SoCal.... such as California, Utah & Colorado. I can provide everything for motorcycle camping. Just bring a smile! I also own a couple Honda ST1100A's if one wishes to stay on blacktop. Both motorcycles are setup nicely for long distance touring with 10-11 gallon rally fuel tanks. I am 6'4" (193 cm) and the XRV is setup perfectly for me.

Here's a little motivation for those wishing to visit the United States: (Photographs of recent trips to Utah, Colorado & local deserts.)

    Desert Trip:

Q/R5: Are there any Kiwi who may consider selling and buying back their XRV? Essentially renting your motorcycle for a couple months. Hopefully, someone has a spare XRV for family and friends and may not miss going without a set of wheels during a couple months. I would consider a Transalp also since I have owned three of them in the past.

Well, that is all for now. Any feedback regarding the above would be great appreciated.

    Take care & ride safely!
