Its the only time I have ever tested the bike like that - it was really making use of the torque at 5000rpm. Anyone who's ridden along a beach knows what it's like getting airborne over those mini dunes. Fricken awesome fun. Coulda done with a steering damper though - got a bit twitchy at times. Kept her below 80km/h though and she was fine....
Sounds awesome. Jumping the mini dunes is heaps of fun.

Tip for getting going again (just learnt this) try rocking the bike back and forward to get the back wheel "on top" of the sand after you have dug a hole. Use clutch to drive forward (gently) and gravity/legs to push back. Alternative is to lie the bike down fill the back wheel hole then stand it back up again Best not to give it too much right wrist when first moving off - you just dig another hole. Slowly wind it on as you build up speed and when you get to max revs in first hold it there for 10 or so seconds till your speed stops climbing then hook second and your off. Aim down hill when first getting going then when you have some speed head back up the beach.

Also keeping your weight well back and keep powering i.e. unweight the front forks when moving makes the bike much more stable.

Might have to check out that beach some time and you've just reminded me to go and try the 950 out on Kaitorete Spit Check out the thread with videos about our run down Kaitorete Spit in Jan this year.

    Cheers R

Cheers Ryan, it was heaps of fun. Still amazed at the pull of the engine. Man it was working hard. The growl just deepened one i hit the soft stuff.

It was nasty shit I got stuck in, the best method was to skull drag it sideways out of the shit then push while very gently rolling the throttle on just to turn the rear wheel. Couldn't rock it at all, was too soft.

PM me if you come up this way and I'll ride with you (so long as I have the bike back in Marlb then).

    RD07 muffler

Anyone got either a spare original or a decent after market muffler to fit an RD07? The innards fell apart on the way back from Invercargill yesterday !! Sounds great now...

My clutch has been on the way out for a long time so I decided to do something about it before the DB is upon us
So I ordered up metal and fibre plates, springs and gasket (less than $200) from Wemoto in England and was astonished to find them in my mailbox 7 days later , now thats fast !
The job was easier than I thought , with the hardest bit being removing and replacing the front exhaust from behind my homemade crashbar clamp.
Took it for a quick 300km test run over to Mot and back on sunday arvo and its heaps better . I think the old one was actually slipping to the tune of about 200rpm at 100k's cause I'm reading slightly lower revs now .
It seems to drag a bit though ( is that the right word ?) and I cant select neutral without killing the motor , I guess this will come right in time will it ??
Just ordered some intiminators .....now thats going to be interesting .
Used the Africa Twin 'xrv.org ' code to get the half price deal , just hoping that they turn up before the middle of next month.

Next time my side cover is off I'm putting in some heavy duty clutch springs ($15). They've been hanging on the shed wall maturing since April.

Underground, looking forward to meeting you and the twin at the DB.
My 650 is pretty much ready to go, just waiting on a swingarm chain slider from Japan. 3 weeks and counting....

    Regards Mark

Yep , it will be cool to see the two RD 03's together , havent seen that before .
I think Japan is slow to get freight out of , I'm just hoping my order from the states gets here in time , bit tricky at this time of the year but I've had stuff within 2 weeks from US before .

Cool , my intiminators have just arrived !
Fairly insignificant looking things for the $$'s ...cool stickers tho.
If I get some quiet time over the next few days I will fit them and do a few laps of the test circuit and report back .

Well I couldnt wait , so I did a quick loop this morning then popped them in and repeated the loop.
The difference was noticable as soon as I took it off the stand , when I push it foreward and cram the brake on it used to dive then rise high before settling ,now it is a much more dampened motion.
On the track every situation seems to be more manageable , the front climbs a bit higher up those tricky off camber corners ,doesnt scoot off across the road on the corrugations, less brake dive, it even lands more gracefully.
Definately the moneys worth of betterness.
Havent got far enough to experience a sealed road yet though.
