Jeepers mate a 08 with 28,000 kms on it. Definitely stuffed - I'd stay way clear..........

Seriously, it's just run in. Buy it, enjoy it and it should be trouble free for at least another 70,000 if you keep up regular servicing .

The mileage prejudice regarding motorcycles staggers me. Surely they're designed to be ridden, yet some folks look distainfully at anything that's travelled more than 8,000km?

I have recently sold a 2005 FJR1300T with 84,000km on its clock. It was only just run in. Mrs H has a 2006 Bandit 650 with 55,000km on it. It's running beautifully.

The first service on my Aprilia SL750 Shiver is at 20,000km. Clearly Mr Piaggio thinks that a bike can get past 8,000km unscathed.

I'd be getting that oil tested, ensuring the oil can cope with that interval.

Assuming the time factor is not an issue.

I'm pretty sure Hitchers oil does not cool down - consquently it does not have the corresponding issues of cold, hot, cold hot running

I've done 25000km on my 600rr in ~18 months. It gets serviced every 6000km.

You wouldn't know it'd done those km looking at it. If it looks like it's in good nick and you have a service record I'd go for it for sure.

Fuck sake... man I get sick off hearing "is that too many km's..." 28,000 its hardly bloody well run in, it will be just start to loosen up and become a fun ride.

I did 130,000 km on my old XJ650 and would have happily got on it and toured NZ on it... the VTR1000 clocked up 60,000 just run it and again would have happily toured NZ... as long as if it has been maintained should be an issue. Do you ask is 28,000 km to much for a car??? why for a bike... in Europe 28,000 km they still class that as a new bike...???

With modern bikes if you don't get 100,000 km before major overhaul out of them something is wrong. If you regularly maintain it then you will get more...

Stop worrying about how many KM's its done... if you like, and want it buy it... and continue to maintain it... you gets 1000's of km's of enjoyment out of it...

I think I would give you as a reference as to how good a bike with 28k can be.

If it isn't using oil, then it sounds like you have found a good one.

I would always pick late year/high mileage over early year/low mileage.

    Thats because they're idiots

Mileage is irrelevent, it's all to do with how they've been looked after

Thats bugger all K's if its well serviced not a problem....pull the dip stick out and sniff it your soon know if the oil hasn't been change often as the will be a burnt oil smell.....the shims should of been serviced at 20,000k see if you can found out the measurments were they should of been noted in the service

check the air filter drain hose as there should be a plug the end if that plug is missing the chances are dust etc has been sucked into the motor and dirt will stick to the inlet valves.....so would recommend you get a leak down test done

I have done 70,000k in two years on the daytona with out a problem just kept up basic maintance and always change oil filter when changing oil at 5k you dont have too but thats my personal choice as I know how I thrash my bikes
