Getting into biking

Hey all, I'm considering getting myself into biking and have so far booked my self in for the learn to ride course and BSH course with road safe tomorrow.

Now for my first bike, I'm considering getting a cbr250r, as they seem to me like they would be a good bike from what I've read up on them. So far I've seen two on trade me for sale and was wondering what I should look out for about them or if they look dodgy from the listening.

Also, does anyone know a good place in New Plymouth and a good place in Christchurch to get the cbr a pre-purchase inspection as I don't live near either of them. So far I'm thinking of Energy Honda in New Plymouth, but I don't know of any down in Christchurch.

Don't just consider it, DO IT !

A Learning to ride course is a great start as will be the BSH course...And getting the right training before the bad practices become habit, is a great move. Welcome.

Hondas like suzukis will go for years and years. I personally wouldn't worry about doing a pre-inspection report. You will only have it until you pass your licence.

250's are purpose bikes and you'll flick it on as soon as you progress. Some one else will come along wanting their licence and will do the same thing.

Make a decision, either one will be fine. and get out there and have fun.

With regards to the bike there are plenty of people here who have those, or have had those and can offer great advice.

Not only that but if you are looking at a bike that is out of town you can post in the forums and I'm sure someone will be happy to have a look at it for you who is local. If you wind up buying from out of town there will usually be people who can help arrange shipping and such, or even provide a bed if you travel to pick it up.

Once you have done your courses look at finding yourself a mentor from here. A fantastic way to further develop your skills from people who have proven themselves to be trustworthy.

I think my idea behind the inspection was just to be extra safe, given my minimal knowledge about biking and would give me an idea if anything needed to be done right away.

Yeah, at the moment I'm planning on shipping it as either way I think it will be a bit long for a first proper ride. Is there any good bike transport company to look at, so far I've looked at Captain Transporter which don't seem to bad.
Also, anyone have an idea how long it usually takes for a bike to get sent to Wellington from either Christchurch or New Plymouth.

EDIT: Just looking at trademe I've also notice a 1989 Suzuki GSX-R250 for sale in Wellington, which I'm also now considering.
