Have you considered taking the hanmer springs / Rainbow road route to nelson??

We looked at that (the placenames looked awesome) but considering we're quite likely going to be two-up on a 72cc bike, we decided to stick with the flatter option!

its a 1 1/2 hour flight...so shouldn't have too much jet lag

They also have to pick up two bikes, travel most of that two up on an 80cc bike AND wait and board a ferry.

about 12-14 hours after landing in Chch they should arrive in Wellywood - that's if you catch the ferry in time

If you're going to do this properly, what you really need first, is a decent title.
If you were good KBers, you would've started a poll, to run a selection of names past the VariousFeckinEejits, see what's most popular, then pick something suggested along the way, like "Lock up your Daughters, Sheep, and Other Small Animules: Two Crazydudes Tour Noo Zilund in an Epic Adventure of Even Epicker Proportions!"
Then add to that a subtext, describing choosing one of the more mental times of the year to tour, that you're using some underpowered and unreliable motovelocipedes to (hopefully) get you there, and you're doing the whole thing on a shoestring budget (assuming you can find some non-velcro-fastened footwear that has shoestrings that you can then pawn for some gas money).

that's the plan - we've set ambitious but not quite impossible goals.

Plan B is currently unplanned, which makes it the most appealing

to keep the weight and bulk down we might courier/post some clean clothes parcels to some of the stops (probably napier and waihi). This allows us to carry more tools.

A puncture repair kit would actually be a very good idea

And holy shit Sam that 50 looks AWESOME! If I hadn't already commited to my honda i'd be getting that!
