    This is Ratty in action.

No, it didn't beat Carvers trials bike but then that was never a contest was it?!

The real challenge is to bring something that had fuck all chance of getting up the hill and giving it a shot anyway. Hell, in the trail bike group Carvers bike belonged to, even an AG100 got up.

Fuck all of the road bikes did though so big reps to you Lula just for having the cojones to try it with an overweight gutless old road bike!

It was nice too that what it lacked in power and ability, it more than made up for in outright noise and hoon factor! Well done ladies, I enjoyed wtching the show:

Badass looking bike! You should bring it out on the ATNR sometime!

It was always just for shits and giggles...

This years project was so much fun! The thinking that went into it, the talking that went into it, the hunting and gathering that went into it, and the teamwork that went into it!

Most of you will not know this but that was not our original bike…the original bike still sits as stubborn as ever.
A last minute team of us started working on that bike you saw from 9pm on the Thursday night to 5am the Friday morning of the Cold Kiwi. Yes that first attempt at the hill climb was my one and only test run!

With the unknown ahead of me I just jumped on it and gave it my best shot.
There are a number of factors where things went wrong…battery power – the regulator/alternator wasn’t working so no power and the other obvious that I can think of was lack of fuel as the engine was being starved with that little ATV outlet on the tank, but other than that I think that bike is a minter and next year this one will be back with improvements.

I’d like to say a huge thank you to Puddy for finding that GX450 as a back up bike, without his initiative and quick thinking it wouldn’t have happened and at such short notice. Also huge thank you to gstring for all her work and support on making the project happen – with 2010’s model we will have so much more time to build and test, this was definitely the test pilot and we are already talking out next years project.

Big thanks to Gubb for the donation of parts, Korumba for his support and input idleidolidyII for the wiring specialist, Buddha111 for all of his support and transportation, Carver for the windups and SkidMark for the fires. There are a couple of others whose support and help mattered but they shall remain anonymous - they know who they are and how thankful I am for their support.

At the end of the day the Rat Bike project was something gstring and I have always wanted to do – this has been our second attempt so third time lucky right G…?

In conjunction with Motorcycle Trader I am now looking to launch New Zealand’s Rat Bike Movement and we are in discussion with a few organisations including the Cold Kiwi rally to inspire more bike builds like this…after all if Lula and gstring can attempt to build one I’m keen to see what you can come up with…

    Go the mighty Rat Bike!
