    Whangaparaoa should do..

else, yeah, probably NL is the closest, then we can move onto SCA, check them all, it's just heading away from the general direction we live, but that's ok..

Not sure if a regular hardware store would carry the right stuff, cos most of the paint (all the ones you should look for) need to be applicable to plastics, else if the faring bends, the paint will crack. We'll figure all that when we catch up.

    Arrow Why bother?

Are you not out of the closet? If not maybe its time to do so? Otherwise, its only a colour. Our car has a big pink pin stripe down each side of it. I let the misses choose the car. I don't have a problem with it or your bike either. You should not either mate...

dont buy the repco shit.... It consists of black (basecoat), colour (comes in a choice of 3) and clear.....
It gives a pretty shit finish (fucked if you haven't painted a pearl of CoB process before) and its $40 -$50 for enuff paint to do fuck-all (1 pack, I'd say you would need 3)
You WILL have to buy a seperate, sandable primer and by the time you've spent all this money, you could have got a decent paintjob from someone who knows what they're doing...

the real shit is the way to go but would cost more....

[edit] trying to take a photo of a jukebox bit i did with the stuff when the boss was being cheap, but its not working in this light..

also it will look brown (or green) most of the time

and its a bit "90's" now.....

after discussing it a bit futher ive decided not to just remove the pink from the bike but repaint the whole deal with BugJuice's help
I went on a small ride with 'im today to look at some of the products available (btw repco new lynn is crapaxor for re-painting products)

my latest idea is a darker metailic blue on the lower fairings going up to a nice smooth and suble lighter blue on the top.

SPMan if you want to come rip the pink RGV sticker shown on the second photo then come over and go nuts. I dont wants it and its gonna get destroyed. I reckon its pointless though, maybe try 'Flesh' in town.

Yeah Ive pretty much gone off the chameleon style for now. im not to keen on it, looks pretty crappy on the cars ive seen.
and after me and bugjuice's looking around today Im thinking it might be a better idea to explore other options.
    I have 2 ideas.
    1) I just moved out of a flat that was above a car painting shop in Kingsland. Im on pretty good terms with the landlord/paintshop manager I could proberly get it done but it would be expensive
    2) I have a friend who has a 'spray painter' machine, im thinking of buying car paint and borrowing it for the job. proberly do a better job of the subtle mixing than me with a spray paint can

*edit. It wouldnt be as good of a deal as it sounds. I kinda put a big torso sized fat hole in the wall just before I left (dont ask, getting rid of hiccups)

    Is that the chameleon paint?

looks weird if it is, just one part purple, I suspect its the light though
    re: painting.
Im an up-myself handiman NZ'R (maybe I could replace all the fairings with no# 8 wire?) and one of my flatmates is 'in the industry' who used the thing to paint his mini, that is after he fucked it up by using repco shit

Great thing about this site is the skilled and helpful people on it. Good on ya bj and good on those others who have given advice.

When I got the components for my Zundapp repainted I figured I got a great deal just paying three hundred and the cost of the paint. The bloke who did it was Tom McCarron, used to live out at Rukuhia, and he was a classic bike (and car) enthusiast - had restored a great number of old bikes and cars.

We got the cyanide-based black Acran (spelling?) for the frame and gloss car enamel for the panels. Tom supplied the primer - and also smuggled a few key pieces out to the airfield where he worked and painted them with air-force grade anti-rust paint.

As I was expecting to pay well over $1000 in addition to the paint I was well chuffed. I saw enough of the stages to appreciate the amount of work that went into it. Didn't do a clear coat over the top, tho'.

Looking forward to seeing pics of the finished bike, pyro.

changing the paint job is a cool idea, but if you want to sell the bike on ever , keepin it fairly standard is the way to get best bucks for it.
Had the same thing with a gs125 my wife had, she hated the stickers,( it had orange and yellow ones ) so I traced round em, and shot down to the local sticker place, got him to knock me up a new set in purple(her fav. colour surprise surprise), then attacked the bike with sanders and nitromors(not on fibreglass!!!), sprayed the base coat back up with a couple of cheap aerosols. whacked the new stickerson and laquered the lot.
    bingo, a bike she liked!.
Its a bit of work, but fairly cheap to do
see god then brake... kevin schwantz

    sweet deal wolf

Allrighty, I think its a good time to open this up for discussion. I will be doing this myself (I mean not done professionally, not excluding help from fellow Kb'rs) and Ill be filming/photoing the entire process ( with my new digtal camcord GLEE )

    Anyways,
We have one tank, purple, stickers under the laquer,
front fairing, side front fairings (small) and the elongated side rear fairings. All plastic, stickers slapped on the outside, no laquer.

I figure It would be most cost effective to do one peice at a time, the plastic could be done without much rush as I dont expect its going to rust much

So Id like your suggestions and comments on how to do this 'on the cheap' I guess Im going to break out some sandpaper and start ripping off as much of the paint as I can. Ill be starting on the plastic fairings.

Ill wait till next week before I start sanding so I can get some good quality photo's of the bike before it gets ugly.

I proberly will post them on www.pyrocam.com once I fix the PHP and sort the server out. Anyone have a laptop that can run windows 2000 (maybe a 300Mhz with 64MB ?) with onboard networking and at least 2 GB HDD? the current server is a 166 desktop computer thats far too loud in my room. Ill give you a yournamehere@pyrocam.com and a www.whateveryouwant.pyrocam.com domain. Cheers
