In cases of emergency there is an override system whereby the driver can either flick a switch or floor the accelerator to disable the safety device and put the car back in manual control

    rightyo...

and to the people saying oh whose gunna buy a new r1 for 24k if it only does 100kph...

    ahhh thats the speed limit...

the bike manufacturers figure you take it to the track to take her up to 300kph...

new r1 is cheap in comparison to others anyway

ie a 2009 cbr1000rr without ABS will set you back 28k.

This reminds me of something that I read about the Nissan GT-R.

In Japan all cars are required to be fitted with speed limiters. When the GPS in the GT-R detects that you've taken the car onto a race-track it tells the ECU to disable the speed limiter and you can use the full performance of the vehicle.
The greatest pleasure of my recent life has been speed on the road. . . . I lose detail at even moderate speed but gain comprehension. . . . I could write for hours on the lustfulness of moving swiftly.

Come on guys this is really worrying because no one has ever removed a speed limiter from any bike ever!

A speed limiter isn't going to stop drunken assholes driving through red lights or stop signs

the major problem with this is after all of the cars have these fitted and they will probably cost more to the consumer to be put in the car.
the Govt will then look at how they will get back the truckload of revenue they collect hiding behind the speeding causes accidents.

    more tax on petrol anyone?

    Ah yes speed kills propaganda...

If they are fitted to cars, they can somewhat honestly says speed wasnt a factor.
So in point it must of been driver error.
So then its not there fault people are being idiots on the road because the nana state has stopped them speeding.
dont forget they already put us through a rigorus training to get our licences anyway.
