I would be interested to ride an 1198 and a gsxr1000 back to back to see which is actually faster...
I rode a 1098R (which has the 1200cc motor) at Manfeild a while ago and can say out of all the bikes ive ridden in my life (which is a shite load as anyone who knows me will tell you), its by far one of the fastest... no shit!
AND it stopped on a dime. One finger braking.
The 1198 would be an amazing bit of kit if you ask me.
And yes I am VERY bias to Ducati![]()

Here's a pretty good attempt of building a race replica! It's got all the good parts

I can, have, and will... then again I hassle every oneI can't hassle Ducati owners any more...
literally.....from lack of use and lovin.
oh shit...didn't think of it that way. I guess I am one then!
nothing too much wrong with hassling Ducati owners.....some of us deserve itand we are SO MUCH more fun to hassle than Honda owners

Interesting read. US$125K gets you a bike that makes 200hp with full ohlins etc. but can only do 1500kms on one engine with one rebuild included at 750kms then it is finished and another needs to be sourced at US$22,500.
Shit, I know it is a Ducatti but c'mon, you could build at least 2 Jappa bikes such as a GSXR or R1 with higher specs and much much much better longevity and still have change for spare part when you bin it.
Even if I had the cash, this just does not make sense to me.
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.
It takes a big man to cry...and an even bigger man to laugh at that man.
Okay, this is going to piss some people off.
In terms of power and acceleration -my GSXR kills the Ducati 1098 - it's not even close. I'd be more than willing to do a standing start, and a roll on if anyone wants to see this. The Ducati has a very tall first gear. Drop a tooth or two on the front, and it'd be closer.
In terms of race track - getting the power down with the GSXR is tough, takes a pretty competent rider to ride it at 10/10ths. I think the Ducati has significantly better brakes, but it dives excessively. The Ducati felt more composed.
the Ducati has more presence, it's classier in comparison, and it will hold it's value better.
But, the GSXR is faster.
Its diametrically opposed to the sanitised existence of the Lemmings around me in the Dilbert Cartoon hell I live in; its life at full volume, perfect colour with high resolution and 10,000 watts of amplification.
