    Starting to feel right again..

    Hey all

Recently got my license back after not having it for 6 months and have started riding again... I also came off on the day I got my bike back on the road (My fault....)

After the off I wanted to chuck it in. sell my bike and sit in my corner and sulk.. Went for a couple rides and had zero confidence, cornering was a mess. and this point wrote up an ad for retardme..

But last night went for a ride with Thani-B out to kaiaua allthe way round till we got to Papakura.. To start with I was over cautious and started to frustrate myself... but after awhile starting getting my confidence level up and started enjoying myself...

I was not worried that thani on her mighty gn was completely owning me on every corner.. I just kept my distance and rode at my own pace.. Also learnt how to ride in staggered formation.
So all in all a good ride..

So Im not leaving anytime yet..
Ladies, if a man says he will fix something, he will fix it. You don't need to keep reminding him every 6 months

Good to hear. Self analysing and working out how you can do it better next time is half the battle.

Motorcycling can be a very rewarding lifestyle if you approach it with the right frame of mind. It can also be very harsh on those that don't.

The last time I broke my Collarbone, it took a while to gather enthusiasm for a ride. Confidence was way down...

I lost half of my left testical in a bike accident. The wife was dead against me returning to riding.

I lost the wife, and yes was a bit cautious, but time on the bike cures that issue.

I started by just doing 50km/h only roads (for a week maybe), and then was back into it.

Well done that man and Thani-B an awesome job of work from you too, you just saved a biker from getting into a cage! It's a great bit of road and will always be a pleasure to ride and enjoy, if theres no pressure.
Hope you get right back up there soon monkeymsea.

Ive heard that this is now quite a common injury in sportsbike crashes due to the shape of the tank

In my case, it was on the road, and the result of a head on impact with an oncoming car at low speed.
I had a few other injuries as well, and because I was in shock, felt no pain at all. In fact, I didn't know I had a testicular injury till an ultrasound person told me, and I looked down, and was swollen like grape fruits.

And yes, it was the impact with my fual tank that did it (you should see the dent).

To cut a long story short, they put a tube into my scrotum to drain out the fluid and when all done, about half of the testical was left.

After my accident last year I have had many yes I will get back, no I will not moments. One of the big moments for me was to get time with Andrew Templeton and get me on a bike in a confined area and demonstrate to myself that I was ok with my balance, was able to hold the bike with both feet and was still got the feeling on how to corner. During a 1 hr period in the rain, I came out the other end with a clean bill of health, giving me loads of confidence and a switch in my mind to say, yes I am ready, all I need now is a bank account to support it. So if you are in Wellywood, contact Roadsafe.co.nz and get yourself organised!!!!

You could try having a ride on that GN if it's confidence you're after. So much easier to ride than a peaky old ZXR. I've ridden three different ZXR250s and I don't reckon they are a good bike for a learner ... or someone trying to get their confidence up.

Try not to worry too much about a lack of confidence. Just carry on working through it and you'll get there.
