Folks, recommendations please!
I am about to purchase a new bike that has a very firm, hard seat, does anyone have any good recommendations re upholstery trimmers ,that do a great job in re-packing the seat?
Ideally S.Auckland.
Cheers.

Best place to go is MacDonalds in Tauranga - yes, it's not Sarf D'Auckland, but it's a good excuse for a ride.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....
Yaha...have had a couple of my seats done there and have sent many via bike shops I have worked at.

You could try Denny at Unique Upholstery, Pukekohe. He is a good guy and there always seems to be bikes outside.

If it has to be south aucks, try Papatoetoe upholsterers, not sure how much bike stuff he does, but he does an awesome job on cage stuff.
Otherwise the Tauranga guys are the go.

Don't fuck around with a half arsed job - send it to McDonalds, they do superb work, check out their website: http://www.trimit.co.nz/motorcycle-seats-tauranga.html
Do it once, do it right.
There, that's my 2 cents well spent!
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes
First hello, I'm new to this forum and also a learner who struggled for 2 months already to get over the fear of stopping the bike without dropping it ( I dropped it once so far on an uneven road ). This is because the bike is a little too high for me, and I can't put both feet down when stopping. Because of this thread, I contacted today the guys from Tauranga by email, and they responded in less than 15'. They gave me a quote and they aim to lower the seat by 25mm or above. Plus, they'll try to cut down the sides of the seat to narrow it, which is amazing.
I'll keep you posted with the result ... and hey, the estimated price was $150, which I don't consider it high, based on the modifications they're going to do.
They do good work in there. The customs seats they do get rave reviews.
The other thing that could be usefull to you is to take yor boots into a shoe repairer and get them to build the sole up. We had this done to my wifes boots, they added about 10mm to each boot and it has worked a treat.

First I'm waiting to see what difference lowering the seat does. If that still doesn't work, I'll buy low profile tyres.
Modifying my boots is my last solution, as it will make changing the gears quite difficult on this particular bike; the distance and height between the foot rest and the gear shifter is quite small. But thanks for your suggestion
I use D R Trim in Morrinsville. I used to work with Roger and he does excellent work. I courier seats down to him and they are back very quickly.

Another vote for McDonald's in Tauranga. The guys ride bikes themselves so they do know that of which they speak.
McDonalds - I'm lovin' it.
