Yeah he won the championship (Andy Bowell). I don't really think that bringing those bikes up as examples of non 650 bikes that are competitive is really that relevant. Both the tigcraft and the 450 have had oodles of money spent on them and are just ludicrously expensive to run etc.
I can't see why people moan about 650's in F3, fine as far as I'm concerned. 125's and 650's are always at the front of the F3 field in club racing down here. Bikes are completely different but lap times of similar riders are very close. Have some good fun chasing and passing them round the infield and then being smoked down the straight.
I agree with what Jill, poos and kirk are saying here, tom. F3 is fine the way it is. 650's are all good on the grids. gives me somthing to chase. Yes, andy's bike is fast. But Fitzgeralds 650 has more money than most of us have spend on it too. As K14 says, ooutside the top echelon, it is a good mix of 400, 125 and SV's all hooning around on our local club scene. and it is mighty good fun.
Just my thoughts,
Feral
PS. Keystone, i saw you did real well at the nth island rounds for the nats in F3. bloody well done mate.
K14, see you did great in your GP class for the whole season too. you where happy with how it worked out?
Just to clarify. The upcoming VMCC winter series will be run as per current MNZ F3 rules. i.e. 650 twins and 450 multis etc. We are keeping an eye on things and will see if there is enough interest this season to introduce the Pro Twins subclass.
When you get down to it, the current rules are OK. Sure, if you want to spend heaps of money then you'll end up with a fast bike regardless of the configuration
F3 has been covered
F2 is approx. 600 Sport Production, except F2 allows more modifications. Clubs tend to run this to allow more flexibility with entries.
F1 is approx. Production Superbikes but with more mods allowed. This allows things like the Steadman 750 2 stroke to run, which isn't production superbike legal. also allows one off specials etc.
well you can't run an 810 in F2......
as long as you are within the class capacity limits then you're allowed a bit more tuning work - like cams, head work etc. and things like carbon fibre fairing etc would be allowed. those are specifically excluded from production based classes unless it was part of the factory homologated bike.
So someone could turn up on an RS250 and race in F2 or Postclassic if its pre 89 or even a latter as they didn't change much until 1993 or something?
Thers alot of people with RS and TZ 250s for sale at the moment. Is this becuase they don't have a class to race in at club level?
