    Smile To Begin

It was yet another rally morning awakening from my slumber, with not much hint of motivation on this day.
All the gears were packed last night, so it was to be dressed, fed and jump on board around 7am.
8.45am I was tootlin down the road, kicken myself for not getting it together earlier.
The straight run was just that, road works dirtied my clean machine that I have slaved over earlier in the week.
A couple having a fag (I do not have to clarify do I?) on the side of the road waved as I passed in Ashburton, not knowing I was to see them again later.
Later (Timaru) I found that he was shittin himself thinking he had the weekends mixed up, as there was bugger all bike on the road, and as I looked loaded, I would be a good target to ask.
The mighty wind kicked in as we got further south, and we, (the couple and I) stopped at Palmerston for a pint. The locals were well and truly “loco” by midday, I would have hated to have seen their state later that afternoon or night.
I bought a pie and thought I was gonna have to ring the bank for either an overdraft or second mortgage!
Steve, (1 ½ of the couple) asked about “best” directions, he relayed these to me and we got on our bikes.
I led as we turned off just past Dunback, and if you know the road (I didn’t) just kept running straight ahead. Now I did not hear the instructions right, and was supposed to turn off just past Macraes Flat (I didn’t). We had earlier had discussions about not really wanting to do gravel, I said “bikes still to new for deliberate long distance gravel travel, and the wind is uncool”
Of course going straight took us on a long and winding road up on the windy shingle road'ed hills down to MM. Would never have chosen to go that one, but 'ed it.
Made it to MM and gassed, then headed to the site, signed in and grabed a site closed to the big tree hedge, which better not fall down in this wind…. Yup there was wind…. Riiight guys!!!!!?????

    See y'all at Outram eh?
When I got out of bed the temp was about 4 degrees and when I rang you at about 9.30 it had rocketted up to 6 and was alternating between heavy rain and hail. Penalties of living in a rain forest I guess. Not to mention the wind Oh well... maybe next time.

wot a total furking laugh OTF woz eh!

God, I laughed and laughed my way through this rally. IDB graciously presented his rear end for me to grab a ride on, which I adore, as its nice to have a gander around, its pissed down all the way to Dunners, for an overnighter at a top posh backpackers, called Hilltop in High Street. (Guys try it out, the placed is fantastic views across to the harbour.

We set off after jumping on and test riding a Hardley Davidson VRod, and man that things chugged around, but Scumdog, not a grundy sound to it all.

Anyway, then a dramatic ride through to the rally site and met up with Penny and the crew from Dunners at one of the pubs, then IDB went off the beaten track with (Oh this is a short cut) guys, it was 70 kms of rough rode, but who cares, its good to see a posh Ducatti being handled in off road terrain.

We arrived to howling gale force winds, and struggled like mad to erect the tents......................and eventually it was

Then the party commenced, fuck I love these rallies, need to have one to look forward to all the time, will sulk down the ski slopes during winter praying for summer to return.

What a total laugh, 290 turned up down by over 100,k but who cares, the finest of the fine folk were there, and up to party dance and talk shit. Met some new dudes, and told em about this site, so should be some new dudes and dudess's signing in soon.

Chris and I danced rock and rolled to the fantastic sounds of the that band, hey how nice, not all rock and dancey up to date stuff, yee har they are going to the Beaumont too, bring em back on I say.................then got a leg up from Nighthawk up the uprights, well I ended up climbing all over him to achieve maximum height clearnance, (sorry mate!),

Anyway, woke up with an awful feeling induced by Eddy from Invercargills Port, (thanks man.........!) and speights, had some awful bruises and wondered where the fuck they came from and had a flashback of the uprights and sliding down them several times.

Then got involved in a trap the bottle in between your feet and jump down the steps game, at the end of the night, and had a race with one of the organisers who told me to calm down as I broke and slam dunked a speights bottle and called him a lightweight for not joining in, he raced me lost, dropped and broke his glasses, whoops double fuck.

Then decided it was time to go to bed..............slept like a total log, and the ride home was a crack, stopped at a cafe in Hyde and had the worlds biggest breakfast and was starred at by the worlds ugliest jack russell (fuck I hate those dogs!), so fed him 6 sausages (coudlnt eat all of them and he was staring at me with biafron eyes,), anyway, the greedy git then begged at the next table, which begs the question "do dogs eat till they throw up? hmm!)

Then the most amazing sight met us through the clyde dam as the sun was hitting the slightly turbulent waters, it looked like glass getting shattered, wow it was a cool sight.

Got hom, descunked and cooked a healthy big bastard roast.

So thats all for now, fab to catch up with all, epecially, the turkey farm, chris and scummy amd nighty hawkypoos and ghostbullet, guys keep on grooving.

See you at the Beaumont, chaps and chappes
"I'm gunna hug ya, and squeeze ya, and call ya George!" "Spread the smile and watch it come back at cha" x

Thank you to those who came to the Garstonian Rally 2009, heads up for the 2010 Rally.......

The rally itself was awesome, why miss this one? There is no reason at all really!
The site was picturesque; the wind was a breath of fresh air, (just trying to positize it a little!)
Beer at 2 bucks, spirits at 4 bucks, food cheap as chips, music was good, company was excellent.
Later in the night, dark and all, I was needing my beanie from me tent. Had a Jimmy, put it down in the centre of the tent thinking no harm will come to it while I hunt out the hat.
My knee was feeling cool, wet in fact!!!!! Mmm the freaking wind had blown the tent pole inside out and it had struck the full can, emptying it all over the floor. Damn it.
There was a wet T, now I would not have placed anywhere in that one, BUT had they had a wet Knee comp!!!!! Hands down winner I say.
I had a damn good sleep… and awoke to some stumbling bumbling drunk that slithered into a sleepin bag next to his bike (tent less) at about 7.30am.
Breky was mighty, a $5 bucker for me, sausage, bacon, egg, bake beans and toast. Then a cupper to wash it down.

I wandered down to see the other KBers down in the gully. To say hey and bye.
While down there a wasp decided to crawl in my jeans pocket and tickle my hand (thankfully that was all) And I was getting to thinking riding home, How did it know to go inside my pocket??? Maybe just maybe, they have been trained down here in 6 finger land , this little wasp critter is Middlemarch’s answer to Viagra!!?

The ride home was grand, sun and backwind . The only thing was the bloody single laner bridge headin toward Macraes Flat from the road that goes to Hyde. I looked the road is all clear, I’ll go round the bend up onto the bridge, and hit the brakes and round the corner at the other side of the bridge. Well I hit the start of the bridge, felt like I went midair, come down on the bridge, onto a board that was quite a bit lower and skinnier than the rest, Made for an exciting interlude . So that one.. is slow ONTO the bridge!!

Bloody fabulous road up through there though.
    Bring on next year.

Still as keen as chips for the Beaumont to…. (I know, Its not chips, but popcorn is as close as ya can get!)

I remember that by the end of the night we had everything sorted out and put to rights.
We really need someone to follow us about and write down our pearls of wisdom.
