Ha after re-reading this thread, i realize that some people here have never owned a dog.
    May i suggest 2 rules:
    a) If you have never fantasized about bikes - leave the forum.
    b) If you have never owned a dog (or wanted to), your in the wrong thread.
I'm not being mean here, its just a good way to make peoples lives easier.
Flame wars are as effective as diesel in a bike.
I mean come on, negative comments about a dead dog?
If you don't have something constructive to say........go for a ride, rather than vent.

    NOPE... LABS ARE THE WORST

I'd hazard to offer the suggestion that the whole reason the two dogs approached the children and their dog was A.) because the Jack Russell was not properly under control and B.) because the Jack Russell was there in the first place. I doubt the presence of the child was of any interest to the two other dogs unless the kids were teasing and/or abusing them.

WRONG ON ALL COUNTS.... THOSE DOGS WERE MENACING THE KIDS AND WERE LINING UP THE 4 YEAR OLD FOR LUNCH... SAME DOGS HAD BOTHERED STOCK AND PEOPLE FOR SOME TIME...

I don't mean to make excuses, but it fucken annoys the crap out of me to see idiots spin bullshit without looking at the bigger picture.

DID YOU LOOK AT THE BIG PICTURE??????????? DOES THIS MEAN YOU ARE AN..............UMMMM....?????

Dog attacks are the result of us humans being ignorant and lazy fuckers - the dogs aren't the problem, we are, and their actions are the consequences of our short commings.

MOSTLY.... BUT SOME MUTTS ARE JUST THAT... CROSS BRED MENTAL CASES AND DESERVE A BULLET...

Never been attacked by a dog but I fail to see how they managed to kill someone, kill a little Jack Russel maybe but not a full grown adult human, unless it was some pyscho killer great dane or Irish wolfhound or its teeth ripped an artery.
So long as you have or wits about you Im sure you could beat the shit outta the thing/things.

Good on the guy for giving up his purple heart for the dog, his medal his descision anyone who thinks otherwise can discuss the merits of it with him but Im pretty sure he will either tell you to fuck off or say the same thing Ive said.

Seen em in action... don't want to be on the end of one, they can break tree branches as thick as your arm, so imagine what they can do to your arm...or whatever else it latches onto... They have immense power in their jaws and can develop "lockjaw" where they simply can not release and need to be prised open with a crowbar, or a Glock 9mm.

They just rip and tear, like a great white snacking on a whale...

Blah, De, Blah, Blah - I expressed my views on the matter, life goes on, tomorrow I will earn some money, have a few laughs, consume food and la de la da.

The kids and everyone else can think what they like, but they're still idiots in my mind. In 5 years time, I might, MIGHT, change my opinion about it. Or even tomorrow I may change my opinion.

    Until then. They are idiots.

Ask me my opinion in 5 years. Okay?

Was in CHCH after the Crusaders won a S12 and was in the Holy Grail and the team turned up for a bit with their medals, one of the guys on the turps swapped his new East Timor medal with one of the S12 guys....... lets just say the capt didnt see the humour in it.

I think the medal is well deserved... that little dog knew exactly what is was doing. And it probably knew it was gonna be toast too but that didn't stop it trying to protect the kids.

A friend had a bullmastifx that he had rescued as a pup from a VERY bad situation, well Brutus recovered from his ghastly beginnings and grew to be a 55kg dog that was extremely protective of ANYthing small that was getting picked on.
His flatmate was 'disciplining' (translation: walloping the crap out of her) her 4yr daughter one day and Brutus saved the day. When Mike rushed into the house cos he could hear bitchface screaming he found her bailed up against the wall standing on the back of the sofa with Brutus nutting off at her while standing over the little girl. There was no doubt in either of our minds that Brutus had saved that little girl a trip to the hospital.
...it is better to live 1 day as a Tiger than 1000 years as a sheep...
