I agree... the time they should have given some cash was to keep it here in the country not to try and get it back...

Couttes is not in the team. He got tossed out shortly after winning the cup. Butterworth is Alinghi's skipper. If Couttes was racing I'd go for Alinghi but with Butterworth, skipping, Barker got be the front runner with 'current' race experiance. That's gotta give him the edge.

I think in the media they should refer to the current holders of the Americas Cup as "cunning".

The Cunning Alinghi team have a new tactic.

Those Cunning Alinghi team members are working hard.

That was a fine display of some Cunning Alinghi sailing.

Cunning Alinghi have got the opposition licked

Wasn't it about $34 million of our dollars?
Would it have killed them to put something that remotely promoted New Zealand on that big red kite of theirs???

They knew what they were doing. Around 2/3rds of that came back as taxes, what with Team NZ being a New Zealand owned company and all that. About fourty million dollars was injected into the Auckland economy as a result too, AND it meant that the skills developed for very damn hi-tech boatbuilding were retained in the country. Good thing too, it looks like we're going to need them.

    Some reading: http://www.tourism.govt.nz/policy/po.../findings.html

Even better is the economic impact of a win, and subsequent defence of the America's Cup. A half billion dollars comes from overseas and the vast majority of it stays in Auckland (you lucky lucky jafa's).

I guess you realise if Team New Zealand wins, they will most likely defend the Cup off Dubai

    Qatar? Cough it up.

Are you confident that Team New Zealand will lick the Cunning Alinghi team then?

Interesting. He was hired as the "tactician". Promotion, or moved sideways?

They might need to borrow HMNZS Te Kaha for that one!
