Doesn't really make any difference, me hunkering down, but ya gotta look the part, you understand! That Buell sounds soooo horny btw...
oooooo dont let Dangerous here you say that, its his other baby... he might think you have designs on it

Seriously tho your bike is fine. So it doesn't have the grunt of a bigger bike, thats cos it aint... but one day you will have a bigger one. I know we spoke briefly about it (very) but any ideas of what yet? I'm curious about what you'd consider...

It's been the perfect learner bike. Perfect for communting as it's light and narrow, handles very well (never mind the pillock on top of it! ), enough grunt up to about 100km/h - it can handle almost any 4 stroke 250, runs on the smell of an oily rag on 91 RON - I get nearly 240km out of 8 litres! Cost me bugger all to buy, very little to maintain, and costs me less to insure than it does to register it for a year!

I've got a couple of ideas of what I'd like next... but the trouble is that I haven't actually ridden any of them yet. That's a bit of an issue for me, because I don't know which of them will suit me best when it comes time to upgrade. So what I'm going to do as soon as I get my full, is to test ride absolutely anything I'm allowed to take out. I'm not phased whether it's a VFR400, a GSXR1000 or Rashika's XB12... I'll ride anything and take notes on how each of them felt. But since you're wanting to know a model? I'm thinking there'll be an excellent chance I'll get a late 90s / early 2000s Honda CBR600F. I've seen one or two around the year 2000 mark go for around $5 - 6k, they looked in good nick too. I think it'd make a good upgrade bike... but I'll try it before I buy it, as well as the other 600s - GSXR600, ZX6R / ZX636, R6, Thundercat, SV650 (not sure on the styling of that, but gotta test ride it anyway)... and so forth. I'll consider anything. The pain is already having the money!! Have to restrain myself!

So its a VFR400 then Dont get to excited, no need to go over a older 600, no need for R whatever, ZX whats it, and a thunder cat is just stupid, even the SV is pushing ya luck.

The SV is pushing my luck?! Many people have told me they'd make a good upgrade bike, but that I'd probably get bored of it a bit too quickly. I don't expect I'll actually be buying a bike that's over 600cc... but that doesn't mean I won't test ride other bikes to see how they feel. I only listed the ones above as examples - in reality I hope to ride as many different models as I'm able to. You might think I'm "pushing my luck" (I actually find that a little insulting, not so much to my riding skill as my maturity and attitude when riding), and I agree that you need to respect what you're riding... but I'm not a crazy teenage loon who can't settle down or control his right wrist. Come on, give me some credit! I'm reluctant to buy a 400 for several reasons - most are quite old, many have been raced, and those that haven't are often thrashed. Also, newer 600s are often similar prices. No offence intended to 400 owners. I think a late 90s CBR600F would be good, or perhaps a VFR750 if I'm going the comfier approach. I'll need to ride them to decide.

Wondered what you were doing riding alongside me. Checking my speed? I'm glad you're concerned for the accuracy or otherwise of my instruments Didn't matter either way, you still quite happily overtook me and rode off into the distance, followed by the rest of the group. So you can take your "no need to go that fast" stick and apply it to your own backside too!

    OI Mr D!
The young whippersnapper has got his head screwed on right and I dunna think hes gonna race out and buy the biggest and bestest and fastest bike he can when he is able to... most of the ones who do often dont even bother with things like a full licence!

DS: I think trying a whole heap of different bikes is the bext way to go... dont get fooled into buying the first one ya see... altho you may come back and buy it anyway after trying others.
I'd say a 2000's early CBR600 is a good start as an upgrade bike: not too expensive and but with plenty of power for you to have fun on. You may only have it a couple of years, and then move up again, but I support D on his opinion that a mid range bike is a good stepping stone. Too many inexperienced people seriously hurt themselves on the big GXSRs and the like... yep they go fast, but even a lot of experienced riders have difficulty with the instant response they bring.
You'll do fine DS... just the fact that you are asking others shows you have a brain up there And I will be watching ya progress. Dont forget if you need help choosing, then the ginga is pretty good at checking thinks out mechanically wise...even tho he is a grumpy arse at times

Old? so what... raced so what, and I doubt that. Anyway you will find a raced bike has been looked after better than the average road bike.

On a Thundercat or late model 600 YES I do, and I know you didnt say thats what you would buy, I made that comment for anyone thinking of such a jump (even tho you are not)
You can arse up at 30kph, its how you 'react' when for eg: the front or back lets go, being able to control the wrist has nothing to do with saving ya arse, its only experience that will have you react in a way, with out thinking (subconscienciously) and do it automaticaly.
An FWIW you have a shit load to learn, fark Im still learning man, it often has nothing to do with the wrist
BTW< was no insult Im a blunt c@#t at times and straight to the point... its you with the problem there, none of us are as good as we think

examples I know! If only I could get as excited as I was at your age, so much uncharted teratory to go, taking the time up the ladder is not only safer but exciting... once at the top (like I am) theres not a lot more to look fwd for ie: having ya dream bike is sweet but what next?

The SV650 IMO rates as a beter bike than the 1000, they haul some serious arse, handle well, great on gas etc... the track has proven how good they are and on the rd a 650 is no slower than the 1000.

Any one that gets bored on a SV dosnt have the riding ability to ride it like one can be ridden.

I should point out that the part we were doing around that speed was out in the wops, long straights, gentle curves, no traffic. I assure you (not that I feel any need to defend any of my actions) that over Dyers Pass Road where you were packing your trailer I wasn't doing anywhere near that kind of pace. For a start there's always cars you can't overtake coming back that way, and it's also quite twisty. So personally, no, I did not fly past doing warp speed. I don't like to speed; I value my licence. I can't speak for anyone else who rode past at warp speed, they may not have been with us.
