The insurance industry/scam is based on FEAR. Thats right, fear of the unknown future. Take care and plan the future and if any barstard takes you out or your treasured possessions, exact your own justice upon him/her.
If no one had insurance wouldn't we be a hell of a lot more careful in the day to day running of our lives? Being "insured" leads to risk taking and negligence, bloody expensive too!
Ever noticed how the biggest buildings in the world are owned by insurance companies? thats YOUR money that paid for them!!

In one word, "Bollocks"! Part of the reason I have insurance is to cover the loss caused by fuckwits that don't have any. Exactly the sort of thing that happened on Friday to my Mrs car, when some toe rag hit it while parked and did a runner.

Of course insurance is based on fear of the unknown. It started a couple of thousand years BC when shippers spread their fear amongst themselves to pay out if one of their ships went down. Same thing happens now. We pay premiums that get distributed amongst us if one of us has a loss.

The key is knowing what you agreed to when you paid your premium. That's the part that creates the problems .... people don't read what they sign. Then they blame others.

As far as the flashy buildings go, it's all about image - who would trust a company with a ramshackle old building with their property and livelihood? You'll probably find that most of those big flashy insurance buildings aren't actually owned by the insurance co's anyway - the flagship Vero Building for example is owned by the Kiwi Income Property Trust.

I had the same with AMI, very rude service after my car got broken into, they didn't want to cover me because of some bullshit techinicality, I was moving between houses and they said I wasn't covered at the new place, even though my policy states I am, over a 3 day period covered at both residences.

They didn't even bother to seat me when I went into their office and the people on the phone were rude every time. I thought stuff it!!! Got their company details from the web and the publicly available names and addresses of all the directors, then e-mailed the area manager to let him know I had 5 letters ready to send off to the directors of the company over the appalling level of service I had received, got a phone call within 30 minutes from someone who couldn't be polite enough apologising, and it was sorted within a week, still with an exorbitant excess though (forgot to lower it...doh!!!).

They will screw you if you let them.
Just cos you can....don't mean you should!!

I'm with you. Bikes get knocked over or blown over too.

I had great service from AMI after writing off a bike. Might have just caught Nadia when she was set for maximum bitch. This is where having the wrong person on the phone causes companies serious damage. I found the same dealing with SKY ended cancelling my account out of spite.

You could well be right there. But i think the manager should have taken his complaint about her a bit more seriously.

[1]Is someone holding a gun to your head? Insurance isn't compulsory in NZ.
[2]The biggest buildings have insurer names on them , true. That doesn't necessarily mean that they own them.

Yes, it is coming to a close.

The valuation has come back, and I was happily surprised at the valuation.
Very surprised. Actually I think I laughed - I Won't elaborate further until i'm holding a check in my hands though.
