Because when it was at the Six Cross camp (near the summit of the Desert Road) it was a lot colder. Always got ice there and sometimes snow. Cold enough to freeze contact lens solution.why do they call it the cold kiwi when you need suntan lotion etc at this time of year

Even penguins refuse to go to six cross camp. Amazing how 20K's change of location makes a difference. Mind you Shrek, apart from 20mins snow at the Brass this year, the Brass has not been cold for for many a year.

Bikes almost all packed and I will be taking the long route....all the way from Taumarunui...hahahahah. Weather looks good..hope so anyway, my old camping bones don't like the cold floors anymore
