    Quite ridiculous.

I've a few mates put their arses on the line for this country and to see their fellow soldiers being let out to dry like this really irks me.

People like Keith Locke would be the first to squeal if our country was ever put in danger.

Perhaps a little bit more American style "support the troops" wouldn't go amiss at the momet.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

I don't think its a bad thing to have a high level of standard for our soldiers. I hope they don't loose their jobs tho.
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Pfft. Operational security......there's no incling of where they are or what they are doing.

Double pfft. Disrepute charges are a fucken have. Because they can't charge you twice for the same crime, or for a crime you've been punished for by the courts, they dump that on you so they can effectively charge you twice. It's b/s.
disrepute covers, DIC, intoxication, loss of licence for any reason, etcetcetc, whether in uniform or not. And now it inculdes what is widely accepted by all other forces-writing on a missile.

Actually the high standards are already there

Clearly no-one understands the basic tenets of warfare.

You can kill, maim and scare the living shit out of the enemy with all manner of high explosive and heavily armoured devices.

But you're not allowed to tease them. That's mean and hurtful. If you do that then you have to leave the game and go home. It's naughty!

i agree with this, i think it is a very tough punisment, however im not sure how things are on the ground over there, perhaps they are being made an example of.

in WW2 they did not email shots to private business, which then went worldwide.

also, it is not really a war over there.

I'm sure the British troops on their stomachs at present with 7.62mm rounds whizzing past their heads agree with that statement....

We shall wait to hear what enlightening reasons he has behind that statement... They said earlier that it was a matter or NZ's reputation in more or less words. Once again, the high up pricks throw real kiwis out to dry, because it seems that our reputation is more important than NZers themselves. That makes sense...

So they're allowed to be the frontmen, taking all of the bullets for the cause, but you aren't allowed to laugh or have fun in the face of danger?

True. Luckily in this combat zone they do have access to the "outside world".
The combat fatigues have been proven to be useless. Complaints have been listened to and the US Army have made two new camoflage patterns available. All from being able to access email and the internet from a combat zone.

Harsh but I have to agree. The biggest problem is that it was done for commercial gains and not only was it distributed widely but now Demon Energy owns that pic and can do anything they want with it. The mocking of the Taliban had little to do with it.

Probably only started as a bit of fun as the soldiers obviously didn't put a lot of thought into it. All this is covered during Pre Deployment training and also reiterated when they get their security brief after landing so they should have known better. We all take "dodgy" photos on ops but don't let everyone see them......dumbarses.

as an ex-serviceman, I agree the whole epsiode stinks. Pick on the little guy and make an example. Bloody typical.

If we fought WWII this way, over half of our soldiers would have been sent home.

i don't think it really runs like that. the powers that be have done little or nothing about the taleban in the last 3 years, the taleban have of course continued in there ways, so now its in the news again as it has reached a stage when the military has to step in again. I know this because I discussed it with an ex british military soldier who is currently working in afghanistan, over a beer in my garage when he was last back on leave.

i dont think the taleban come over the horizon blazing away with 7.62 X 39 rounds. they would be totally slaughtered. they just bomb people and defend themselves ( and probably fail at it ) when attacked.
Don't get me wrong, I don't support them at all, but I do think they are totally out-gunned.
I don't have sympathy for the soldiers sent over who are getting shot at ( this may include a friend in the near future ) because it is what they decided to do, and the ones I know love it anyway.
