I was already importing. We are still trying to do the NZ made thing. Just some issues to work through. Early days.

Any progress? I am getting keen on replacing mine. I popped into Belstaff online to see if they have something that would replace it.

By god, have you seen what they've got online?! Mincing fashionistas, you have to click on a 'Spring/Summer Collection' thingy to see anything. There is a bit of blurb about LWD which makes me nervous, but might have taken me somewhere near modern motorcycle jackets, but no luck. I clicked the Belstaff and LWD link and I got an fit inducing rendition of Ewan and Charley at 100% download. Close. Goodbye.

    What next?

The only New Zealand made gear I know of is MSW in Auckland, Celtic leathers and leda, there is one in Napier to but I dont know the name.
Im unaware of any Textile gear made in NZ and as far as Im aware the originator of this thread is importing it (and good luck to Busa for doing it)...........not that there is anything wrong with that because most gear is imported into New Zealand.
And despite Gizzits constant digs thats all I have to say on it.

Have fun shopping there is alot to choose from
Ive run out of fucks to give

The one in Napier is Jet Leathers, who by the way are responsible for the duty we all have to pay on leather jackets & pants (racing suits with armour are duty free as are textile jackets and pants with armour). Wrong really when you see their range which is nothing like the modern protective product available from Leda, Qmoto, Celtic and of course the big imported brands.
Don't get me wrong, their products are well made and good quality but very basic and well, old fashioned now compared to what else is on offer. (http://www.jetproducts.co.nz/price.html)
I think the tariff is only in place because of all the similar styled cheap Pakistani leather that flooded the market quite a few years back.

Yea, i'd be happy to buy NZ made too, providing it is made with taught, and not just leather pieces sewn together. Since you know people within the business already tho I doubt that low quality will be a problem. Giz a call once you got some gear to view eh

I'll be blunt. I think NZ made leathers would cost considerably more than imported leathers, such as sold by Quasi and 1Tonne. I also have faith that these suppliers supply gear using all the CE rated armour and that their garments have been routinely tested (evern if only by themselves on the track).

So I have the choice of buying top quality products at *very* reasonable prices, or NZ made goods that are much more expensive that offer me no more protection (or worse still, less protection).

I think if I were you, I would accept my goods were going to be much more expensive, and as a result, I would probably aim at the top 20% of the market. Make an absolutely uncompromising product. Offer something that hardly anyone else does, like maybe personal fitting, 5 year guarantee, something else. Something that really sets it aside from everything else. Then you will draw people in who are not shopping on just price alone.

Jet Leathers are based in Hastings and great do great repairs to leathers.

Dusty at Leda is great to deal with, even if you dont live in Wellington region, look for the website and see how easy it is. The suit I have, he put a couple of extra parts on so I can use it on the road, which doesnt hinder when using it for racing.
As for costs, its worth it, and not as expensive as everyone thinks and gets hooked up on. For someone of my size buying of the peg isnt the easiest to get it fitting.

Another reason I went with a Leda suit is that they last the distance. My old man still has his suit Dusty made 39+ years ago. As expected theyre dont have as much proctection as the suits now, but everything else is in complete working order as it would have been all those years ago.

My choice has been limited by the fit of off the shelf products so I am getting gear made to fit me by Celtic. If off the shelf gear fitted me I would buy that and the Qmoto Vengance jacket is a very attractive product at a very reasonable price. The nearest other jacket that is a close fit for me is an Alpinestars, at twice the price. And btw it is made in China. For a price between those two I am getting a jacket made by Celtic that should fit like a glove and it will be well made with the best materials and components.

Summary - Custom made in NZ with full armour etc etc is twice the price of some good gear but still less than what you pay for overseas fancy brand gear. I am more than happy to pay the extra to get gear that fits and is made to my requirements.
    Here for the ride.

Dealing with a local (nz)firm you should be happy with the cover the Fair Trade Act gives.

I think you should break the big story now, it would be great for others to see what we have to put up with...........
Thursday you tell us a zip broke on your gear,
Friday you send us photos which were not clear,
Friday we arrange collection at our cost to inspect the zips,
Saturday 2.52pm you contact Fairgo and then YKK claiming (god knows what)
WE STILL DIDNT EVEN HAVE THE GEAR BACK FFS
Monday the courier collects the gear from you
Tuesday the gear is almost fully repaired.

So whats the story??? are we missing something that requires you to contact Fairgo and contact YKK and send us threatening emails before even getting the gear back!!
Are we missing something that requires you to establish an account on KB to discredit us? (something you started threatening us with on Saturday btw)

We are and have been doing everything that we can possibly do to rectify this small issue for you so please allow us some time to do this.

    unbelievable

Whoever sees this dont deal with this guy for your own sake!

    great another threatening undertone.

Will leave you to your campaign, in the meantime you can expect nothing but the best service in your zip repair, I hope to have these returned to you very soon.

I think Quasi, i tonne and all other dealers in NZ do a great job in supplying fellow motorcyclists with good gear and do there best to keep all happy. So give a bit of time to sort any problems and all should be happy. Shouldnt be any crap brought up on here .
