Will NZ open doors to SAFAS?

Genuine refugees aside.... we did not open our doors to black or coloured Saffas when they were opressed, why should we now for the white Saffas. The mess they are in, is a large part, their own making. although I do sympathize with all persicuted unfairly.

Over the years I have met enough Saffas in NZ to know they bring unwanted baggage in the form of predjudices...."We do not want to live in that part of the country because maori (Coloured) live there" NZ has its own fare share of racial tension, we do not need to import any more separitist attitudes into that mix.

but let's be fair it's not all one sided... some SAFAS are decent. some ain't so. couldn't you say the same thing about NZ'ers, yanks, the french, bob the builder, english, some robot called S.P.B.? spanish, the french heh...

Either way. Why would you not accept these people into your community?

Agreed that it is not all one sided and yes some Saffas are decent...I work with ten saffas and socialize with them and their wives....on those rare occasions when they mix outside their cliquey wee group.... They tend to keep to them selves to the exclusion of all others in a very rude and obnoxious way....that is not a social trend I want to see develop in NZ

yes people in NZ are bad enough....JimO's ignorant attitude as he posted above is a prime example of a separatist attitude that is bad enough in NZ today with out adding to the mix with those whose entire culture thinking and way of life is formed around those principals

Does Oz have any say with regards to our immigration policies? I've known of a few people who have immigrated to NZ so they can go to Oz later since Oz didn't let them in directly

I hope you are not attempting to put NZ into the "1st World" category. Please have more respect for our 3rd world Banana Republic.

Many people arrive here as a second choice. They then spend the time getting the citizenship and then straight off to Oz. Perhaps another part of the political reason behind the scenes for "NZ becoming a state of Australia"?

It is just a matter of time until for those reasons Australia closes its border to NZ citizens.

You can maybe understand why they stick together though. They can come from gated communities, bars on the windows, armed guards at the gate, thick heavy gates between the living areas and the bedrooms, armoured cars, bodu guards etc... it hardly screams I'm welcoming people into my home... but how can it in that environment... it could be that they only trust "their own", bit like the Indians, Chinese, Italians, Maori, Brit etc... dunno... but I know what you mean about the cliqueeness. Although from what i've seen, the few i've known over the last 2 years or so have settled quite nicely into to a freer, more relaxed way of life...

Been hearing a lot lately about some form of unrest in SA.

By way of some insight mawm blogs on a press release from the South African Institute of Race Relations.

Racial tensions in the country appear to have increased significantly in recent weeks. This appears to be chiefly as a result of incitement by the ruling African National Congress to ‘shoot and kill’ the Afrikaner ethnic minority in the country. The anxiety around this incitement may well have influenced opinions across the broader white community. What appears to be the case is that much of the racial rapprochement that characterised the first 15 years of South Africa’s democracy is being undone. This rapprochement saw both black and white South Africans come to occupy a middle ground on race relations upon which the maintenance of future stable race relations depends.

Since 1994 the number of white farmers and their families murdered in South Africa is conservatively put at around 1 000. It may very well be much higher. There are currently an estimated 40 000 commercial farmers in the country. Over this same period in the region 250 000 South Africans out of a total current population of approximately 47 million have been murdered. Criminal violence can therefore be described as ‘rampant’ and has done considerable damage to the social fabric of the country. However, this is not to say that all murders in the country are a function of simple criminal banditry. In an environment where law and order has largely collapsed the consequences of incitement by political leaders to commit murder must be taken seriously.
