Taking the long way Kerry? Going via DUD from CHC will add a few K's. After seeing a guy in '86(ish) with icicles hanging off his eye lashes, from a ride through Central to the rally site, I'm convinced that SH1 and the Pig Route is the way to go. Its 400km from my doorstep, yet to decide if i will attempt to go there direct or stop for a night along the way.

Going again this year, but as it is the 30th we thought we would do it differently,
Blenheim to the Brass on 50cc scooters, about five of us are going to tackle it including my wife.
    I am riding a c50 stepthrough that i paid $25 for.
Will be riding with no back up vehicle and carrying all the gear required for the journey and traveling the roads less traveled, through the center of the McKenzie country gravel roads and then the Danseys Pass.
Was too easy on the Busa , mind you i would rather have an off on one of these beasts than the Busa.

The one we thought we had access to is not going so yes if there is spare room somewhere.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

I'm planning to take my old shitter down from Christchurch. It only does 70-80 kph on the open road, and thats slow enough for me. Don't think I could do it on a moped. Brought a set of handle bar mits for this trip as I could not find a set of heated bars that will fit it. At least I will have heaps of luggage space, thats one advantage of a side car.

I'm also really looking forward to the trip as well. I must remember to take Friday off. Might stay in Kurow fri night.

Hoping cold wont be too much of a problem as wind chill will be minimlistic.
luggage could be hassle tho, will stake it on the scooter like they do in some of those asian countrys??

I thought you had a new blow up mattress that also kept you warm... trying to remember what it's called... ... but it sounded like a Mr Tripple if there's such a mattress made

I just fitted some heated handle bars to the old shitter. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh lovely wharm hands. Must say I got used to the thermostatic ones on the Harley which maintain a set temp, but well hot then turn off will be just fine on this bike.
