    You have mail

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

Excellent!!! 2 beds in case I throw up in one, or Gunnyrob throws up in one...ask him about our cousins 21st some time

Having read about Gremlins bed habits on his South Island tour, I think I'll take Carls offer and room with him and Rob.

    See you there!!!

    Should I be worried?

Yes, but you were in a different tent and from what I recall you piked out early after 2 cans of Diet Coke, so no fear of a drunken room-mate other than Gunny, and I've lived with that prospect for 41 years so far, so no surprises there.

Hi all, I think Monamie and myself are sorted. Bunking with Chanceyy seems to be a good bet Praying that the weather favours the Forgotton Highway, has anyone not done this bit of magic? I think I recall reading it was in the running for one of NZ's best biking roads of all time. Can't argue with that, it's superb!

Yep did it earlier this year, bloody gorgeous but not the best road to traverse in the pissing rain though. Best to make the call on the day at this time of year.

Bloody gorgeous is the word alright and definitely a road that demands respect. Plenty of hazards (smooth tar, wet leaves, surface repairs, animals, drop outs, and VERY tight twisties ) and quite 'technical'. And not a lot of cellphone coverage! I've done it about 8 times now and it gets better each time. Funny thing about it is that even though it's approx 160 kms long it just doesn't seem like it due to it's wow factor. Let's hope for one of those crystal clear winter days eh and if it's no good in that direction there's plenty of choice

If it happens you will love it There's about 12kms of gravel through some awesome native forest. The gravel is pretty easy and will most likely be damp and packed down so the Hornet won't have any issues 2 up.

yup all sorted n dunno if it was due to extreme tiredness, stress of a 1,000k ride or that god damn gravel that just about did me in (blardy was not gonna get me though)
I did not enjoy FH .. guess I have to do it again sometime to really make my mind up ..

with all the maps koro j has put up plenty of good rides in all directions depending on weather

    Auckland saturday depature

    EDITED - See Post 196

Now I have a few suggestions for the route down (bear with me fist time using a google maps link):

    Option 1

Down SH22, Waingro to Raglan Rd, SH23 turning on to SH39 (Pirongia Rd), cut through the Waitomo Vally Rd & Trooper Rd to Eight Mile Junction, Eight mile Junction to Tamuranui and then over the saddle and into Tokaanu and our destination, 358km according to google.

    Option 2

From the autobarn down 2 for a bit then turn off few some back roads to Morrinsvile, up and through Waterworks Rd (or somthing simular, I know a few options through here) linking up with some back roads out cambridge way before connecting up with the old Taupo Rd, then the western access into Turangi. THis is bassically the route we took last year, simplified of course. I cant be arsed doing a map becasue I have hit my data cap and this is all taking two long.

    Option 3

There has been a suggestion made that we head down and loop back through through the forgoten highway If this was to occur I would recomend leaving out the 22 section of the first map and when we get to 8 mile junction turn towards New Plymoth.

    Open to all suggestions

Long way around for a Why?

I like this idea, but you could turn back in at Okau to cut out the FH loop.

'course, you could always do the longer loop, going through Wanganui, but then your leaving time depends how much you can do... I'm talented at always getting up late

Okau isn't a very good option this time of the year especially on road bikes!
Suck, Squeeze, Bang, Blow aren’t just the 4 cycles of an engine
