Unfortunatly the outcome for this lass is rather bleak. It was an open face helmet so she would have noticed if the strap was undone, i.e. as soon as she started riding it would have "lifted", perhaps the strap was loose though. I do not condone open face helmets but I guess they are better than none at all.
It would appear that bare shiny tar on a wet road, with a bike with brand new tyres and a (relativly) inexperienced rider on this bike have all come together to this tragic result.

    Thoughts with the family.

I take it this thread is delayed, it was Saturday, not yesterday.

Thanks for the update Toot. I know everyone on here will be sending positive thoughts and warm hugs to the rider and her family and friends at this very difficult time.

    Update.... as at 1600hrs 9th Aug 2010.

Rider is off life support, breathing on her own, doing positively. She is responsive to 2 families voices by squeezing their hand with her right hand, even hough she still in a coma.
She has been moving and playing with daughters hand most of the day, though only with her right hand.
Doctors spoke with her explaining/ testing some things, after which she gave a gentle thumbs up to show she understood.
Still very serious, and unsure how she will recover. Family all praying and hoping she recovers fully with use of left side and no permanent brain damage.

The family are truly appreciative of all thoughts and prayers. I passed on all the comments and well wishes from here.

Will keep updates as things change.

    Update 1330pm 10 Aug 2010

Well, the Gal is a battler. Looks like she will be out of critical ward tomorrow if she keeps improving. They removed all the tubes and throat lines today to see how she goes.
She can wriggle her left toes to response and everyone is getting more and more hopeful. Still a long ways to go, but flip she is fighting hard. It's a real testament of grace, will and strength.

Thanks all for the thoughts and prayers. The family are so appreciative.

    O dear,

Not a good situation for the Lass or her family. So pleased she has a great support base of positive individuals around her as she recovers. Certainly puts some events into perspective.

    Best wishes for her recovery.

    That's good advice.

A slight ease off the gas lets the bike right itself.

The helmet thing should not ever happen. BUT it happened to me today. It was cold this morning and putting on my neck buff sploilt my routine and I forgot to fasten my helmet. I realised what I had done a couple of Ks down the road and put it right.

I don't know the lady but I do hope she pulls through OK.
