    Coke Zero. Healthy?

We all know Coca Cola's Coke has tonnes of sugar. But how about Diet Coke or Coke Zero? The label at the back says 250ml = 3.7kj energy. That's what.... less than milk?

    It's got 0 sugar.
    It's got 0 fat.
    It's got 0 calories
It's got 0 almost everything on the label.

What's the catch? My question is, will it make me fat? And what the hell is that Philomenimeninenimeneinm? Is that bad?

Won't make you fat but pretty sure phenylalanine is carconogenic.

    From the Mayo clinic

    from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.

Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid, so you need it in your diet. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.

Phenylalanine is found in protein-rich foods, such as milk, cheese, nuts, seeds, poultry and fish. It's also found in diet foods, such as diet soda, which contains aspartame.

Phenylalanine isn't a problem for most people. Diet sodas contain a warning about phenylalanine because it can pose a risk to people who have phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU is a rare condition in which the body cannot process phenylalanine. If you don't have PKU, don't worry about phenylalanine in your diet soda.

For infants and children with this disorder, consuming phenylalanine is dangerous. If you're an adult with this disorder, consult your doctor regarding whether phenylalanine is a concern

These drinks are not healthy! There are all sorts of chemicals added to them of questionable quality.

Fruit juice is way better, but if you want something for a bourbon, natural and healthy colas like phoenix are available.

Hell, just buy some cola nut, grind, put that in some caps with guarana and ginkgo biloba. Some dried sheep adrenal glands could put a real edge to that too. Hmmm

    Lots of sugar. Pass.

So far, by the posts above, seems like Coke Zero is as good as tap water.

This applies to all soft drinks with these ingredients:

Phosphoric acid (rust remover ingredient) commonly made from the the mould of scrap molasses is linked with lower bone density and kidney stones/chronic disease.

Sodium Benzoate (used in Silver Polish) breaks down into the carcinogen Benzene (unleaded petrol additive). In response to consumer insistence on a more natural product and Sodium Benzoate's links to DNA damage (read Parkinsons, early aging effects, neurodengenerative disorders, cell death in general) and ADHD, the Coca Cola Company is in the process of phasing Sodium Benzoate out of Diet Coke. The company has stated that it plans to remove E211 from its other products — including Sprite, Fanta, and Oasis — as soon as a satisfactory (read cheap) alternative is discovered.

Aspartame (used in medicine as a heavy duty laxative) controversial at this time. But no real proof of health danger in small doses....yet. Worth noting that it does break down into Formaldehyde in the human body.

Caffeine has both positive and negative effects on the body. Dependant on individual reactions. Worse negative effects are addiction, headaches, stomach/intestinal irritation, insomnia, bone density loss. Healthiest effects occur in it's natural state (coffee, cocoa).

Aspartame is present in most sugar-free chewing gum - if you need to move some blocked up #2's - chew a packet of Extra in a day

In all honesty EJ, I used to drink 2 bottles of Bundyburg Ginger beer everyday. That stuff has got to contain the highest amount of sugar of any fizzy drink?... Dr said I had to loose a couple of KG's and cut back on my sugar intake to avoid that Diabetic thing. So I switched to Coke Zero because I still need coke something for my rum right?...I dont drink alcohol that often now. Its something else I have basically cut from my diet. The odd beer here and there.
Coke Zero is the closest thing to real coke. I have no issue with drinking it and no issue with adding it to my Appletons when required. I have also switched to equal as a sugar supplement for my coffee. The best thing about it all is.... I have dropped 10kgs since cutting back on my sugar intake.
