Are buses the worst form of travel?

So I was walking round today (I know why was I walking when God invented motor vehicles so we didn't have to) anyways I passed through a few bus stops & this got me thinking are buses the worst form of travel?

They are usually either packed or empty i.e. not fun to ride or a waste of space on the road
The are big, slow & annoying for other road users
people waiting round & getting on/off buses are annoying to pedestrians
They aren't cheap to ride (debatable) & they are definitely not cheap to run
They only run set paths at set stops

Really the only advantage I see for buses (in the grand scale) is they provide some mostly empty lanes for us bikers to use.

Anyone else with thoughts on this???

When the bus drivers were on strike, Auckland City traffic was fantastic - better than school holidays.

I don't mind them too much - they keep plebs off my road....

Local bus service here is not too bad. You can get anywhere for $3.10. This buys you a ticket that you can use for two hours and lets you link to the next bus.
Downside locally is buses only come along every half hour.

Size etc? Yeah. Too big. Why not have much smaller buses but more of 'em? At peak hours run a bunch on the same route so that as one is filled the next one comes along to pick up any leftovers. At slow times run fewer...

I've never tested my theory but I think a donkey would be a low form of transport.

    Or an Ostrich.

the bus service here is beyond shit. the timetable on the nearest stop lists the first bus as being about 10am, yet theres one that goes past about 7.

when i was in chch i found their service great, though pocket timetables were near impossible to find. i made a point of keeping mine though they will likely be out of date after the quakes. i liked the signs outside major stops giving an indication of how far away the next bus was and that you could stay on as long as you liked.

the buses on the gold coast are brilliant. if i get the chance to move over there, i will do what i swore against and become a weekend rider and use the bus during the week.
