    Chewing tin foil. Aaaaarrrggghh!

Can someone please tell me why, when you bite down on a bit of tin foil, if fucking hurts like no other.

Feckin' hell, just finished a foil wrapped kebab (which was shite by the way) and there must have been a slither of foil on it that got in me teeth and.......FACKING POW....all hell breaks loose in me gob. Feels like someone has tazered my tonsils, the fecking pain of it.

I would sooner go through 36 hours of labour and drop a 9lb baby out my man-gina then do that again...

So, why the fuck does it hurt so much.......???

The digestive juices in your gob act like battery acid and produce an electric current - it's shorting out your nerves where it's grounded by/near a filling.

It's to do with your fillings...

    Shamelessly stolen via google
Some dental amalgams contain up to five dissimilar metals. Galvanic action between the metals different electrical potentials creates a electric cell in the tooth, which can generate currents of up to 10 microamps, a huge spike over normal body nerve currents of 3 microamps. People with extensive fillings can actually measure a weak voltage in their mouth from this action. This is all fine and dandy, until an outside element is introduced.

When the aluminum is introduced by the foil, it acts as an anode to the filling's cathode. The natural electrolytes present in saliva create a 'salt bridge' and the magic happens. The contact essentially short circuits the cell. A weak current flows between the electrodes (tooth and tinfoil) and is detected by the sensitive nerve of the tooth as an unpleasant sensation. Zap. To accompany the shock, a metallic taste can also be generated by tin ions released by the reaction.

P.S. please stick to chewing on pies
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Because you were too lazy to look after your teeth properly in the first place, think of it as a punishment.

That'll be making your dentist happy

I've a friend who's a microbioligist, and she confirms takeaway kebabs are still the number one way to get food poisoining.

I dont know where you all got your information from, but this is a basic biology problem,
    Max is a male,
Tin foil lives in the Kitchen.
Maxi (assuming he has a partner and this is her name) is a female (we hope)
Therefore she wont get the same effect as Max does from chewing on it.
You guys obviously need to tighten up your house rules...
