Workplace bullshit!

So I've recently had a few absolute shitty days at work lately. Been working bloody hard and while we meet our financial targets (8 months in a row!), we have missed on a few of our planned installations. This aside, everyone in my department has been working very well and very hard.

Then I went away on a work day trip on Friday and my Techs told me that the glorified receptionist has been telling them that I do a shit job and I'm crap at my job. Something that she is not even remotely involved in, and given that she comes from a hospitality back ground, she has no fucking idea what she is talking about. My senior tech told her to shut the fuck up and she has no idea what she is talking about.

Now I've pretty much had it with this job, but I don't want this bitch to get away with this. The guy that stuck up for me asked me not to make something of it as it implicates him, but fuck I'm so fucking mad to have this cunt try to undermine me infront of my staff. If this is what she has said to them, what does she say to everyone else? Whos next? She has it in for another staff member and talks alot of shit about them openly too.

So options

Go to the Boss, let him deal with it.

Go to her, tell her to mind her own fucking business.

Go to the company meeting tomorrow and infront of everyone have a kick off about "professional conduct".

Just quit.

Honestly, I'm in the middle of a moral dilemma. If I bring it up, it causes shit for my techs.

Not acceptable, but absolutely pathetic. I would tackle her head on if I were you, but that is not the best advice I am sure. Just say you heard she had been saying crap about you, and ask her why?

Record everything, if you are not already, and depending on her reply make a decision on where to go next.

Look for another job too, if you are good at your work and your boss does not support you, you have somewhere else to go, or at least use to lever a better deal out of your current employers.

If she really has no idea of the work you do I'd be wondering if she's heard it from someone else.

well I know what Id be doing but I wouldnt advise others to do it. . .
either tell her you found that sex tape she made when drunk on the internet and if she doesnt fuck up, youll release it to everyone she knows.

really you should have a BIG whine about professional conduct, while glaring at her. Then also make a point about how 'any one who actively provides negative advertising for the company is in danger of instant dismissal, as this is seen as SERIOUS misconduct'.

bullshit is common place in any workplace.

I guess the thing you need to decide is how you cut through the bullshit and get to the root cause of your issue, you want to understand why the receptionist may have been saying these things about you.

Given that you are acting on 2nd hand information, the only real option is to approach the receptionist and ask her if there is anything wrong with the way you are doing things. Given you lead a team, it may not be a technical thing, but a people thing. Often it's not what we do, it's how we do it.

Hopefully she will be upfront and tell you if there is a problem and you can decide a way forward, or she well crawl under the nearest rock with embrassment with being found out as the company gossip. Either way keep it professional, remember you have the respect of your team, don't do something to undermine that.
