and there goes the good old NZ Nealism. The WCC own 35% of the airport company, of course they can stop it, the idiots want it but can point the finger at the airport company. If they see that it will be a marketing fail they will stop it. At the moment they are too blinded by their own spin.

The people who will see it are people who have already decided to go to Wellington, are leaving Wellington or already IN Wellington, how will this promote the place?

Sure - you have you giant carrots and you may (if you are a particularly sad bastard) say to the kids, ohh, we are only 30km away from the giant rams testicle, we gotta see THAT etc but honestly would you fly to another city to see a Wellywood sign? Erm - no...... If it was a 1000ft tall statue of Robert Muldoon and had giant lasers for eyes and one arm going up and down like king kong trying to grab the approaching aircraft out of the air it would be a freakin winner...

But its a sign.....

Its boring and the sad cocky bastards that dont realise that most people genuinely DONT like it are misguided and vain.....

Exactly, and for the record, I have never suggested the roll over option.
Its a bit like that other issue (the biker related one) ...
TPTB wait for the noise to go away, and then they can quietly go about thier business uninterupted.
Protest action, on a whole, in NZ, is pathetic to say the least.
The internet is a great tool to gather support but it ends right there most of the time.
