    Bought a Penske suspension unit for just over NZ$1000 just over a year ago and last week, bought a pair of Acerbis hand guards for $200. On both occasions, didn't pay any duty at all.

    Why is it when you live next door or in the country things are made, you can get them cheaper on the other side of the globe?

    The customs duty, seems a bit hit and miss. I have brought items in, and paid no duty. But I have paid on an inexpensive muffler I brought in. But I have not brought in gear yet. I am considering buying an Arai, ex USA. A saving of $700.00 NZ, and a helmet paint job not avaliable here. I am tempted.

    Motorcycle spare parts do not attract duty, nor does protective gear with fixed rigid armour - not sure about draggin jeans though. They might be classed as clothing which is 15% I think.

    Everything however attracts GST - including the shipping. The rule is that they can charge you if the total amount of GST + Duty is more than $60.
    What part of for(int i=0xC02;putchar((i&7)+69)&&(i>>=3); ); don't you understand?

    I got stung $200 for my Icon jacket when it came in. It is an armoured jacket - elbow and back.
    Their reasoning was that it was an expensive item that I was getting cheaper and therefore I had to pay the $$.

    Bugger.

    The customs document wording is quite specific.

    Tarriff Item No: 4203.10.12
    Goods: Leather protective one piece motor cycle suits, or jackets and pants whether or not imported in sets, with fitted rigid protective inserts for elbow, shoulders and knees
    Rate: Free
    Reference: 303103K
    Effective From: 11/10

    GST is always payable though. If it is more than $60 and they end up charging you, they add another $38 processing fee!!!

    6203.42 Woven denim trousers, incorporating Kevlar reinforced panels, for safety and abrasion resistance,
    6204.62 of a kind suited for motorcycle riding.
    6203.43.02 Motorcycle trousers, abrasion and water resistant, 100% nylon outershell with kevlar knee protection and removable hip protectors.

    Its simple really, every reputable internet/web site has a telephone number, ive been buying stuff ex USA/England for years,i ring them tell them of my customs plight and they fill out the paperwork to suit, why would they not.Sale is a sale. For big items ie aftermarket rims get them sent a week apart with a value on each less than $400.
