That's rough. Some dumb bitch wrote off my bike once, I was uninsured, bought the bike for $6000 privately, the dealership I took it to the dealership which valued it a $10995, reached an 'agreement' with her insurance to 'settle' for $9000, which was great.

This time it was my fault. Going along Birdwood Rd, coming round a corner and suddenly some stray gravel on the road ended up with me sliding under the bike and getting my ankle trapped under it in a muddy ditch. 3 good blokes helped me to get it up and into a driveway. Left it a good 10 min and tried to start it but couldn't and it couldn't detect what gear it was in. Considering the only visible damage was around the rear view mirror I thought if I could get it started I may just try to fix it myself and call in a few favours, however after another 5 min it still wouldn't start. So called my insurance company and got them to send a towie. 45min later he arrives and after getting on the truck it starts first time
So I am now down a bike and may be looking for another. Thinking something with a bit bigger tyres this time

Ouch.
I take it that you are okay and everything.
So the FXR is a writeoff?
Yeah I'm fine. Bit of a stiff knee and a nice whole in my new pants that i bought last weekend (was good they protected me though).
I think it's questionable. The cost to fix the fairing may be more than it's worth on it's own but I don't know and it may need a new gearbox, so I'm not really sure. I almost hope so, found a bike that I would really like to have a look at on trademe already

Wow thats rough. What part of Birdwood Rd? I was going to head out that way on Sunday.
Halfway between redhills and the bridge, not a particularly tight corner or anything, just was not prepared for the gravel

Right - time for a quick lesson. #1 - stop falling off....
Please
That is the plan, just doesn't seem to be working out too well

Yeah, the not starting problem is common after a good hit to the engine and it being on it's side for a bit. Mine took about 20 minutes before it started after my low-side. I think things just need to settle from wherever they just got thrown to.
Yeah that's what the tow driver said (he owns 3 and has been riding since he was 15 apparently) but still with it not being able to detect what gear it was in and not being able to be put in neutral I'd be well out of my depth when it came to trying to fix it I'd say. Oh well out of my hands now
