Yeah, I agree with Virago. I'm happy to give sweeties to those that've dressed up, but I'm not responsible for any of that shite, I expect Mum and Dad to figure that one out!

Not too worried about the Americanisation NZ, that ship sailed a loooong time ago.

    I guess I will wait.
Yeah???? I remember Halloween when I was a kid - everyone used to dress up in costumes and go to a community dance ... children, adults, teeagers .. the whole lot together ... where neigbours, friends and community had a great time together ... at a fancy dress party ... to celebrate All Hallows Eve ... (Tomorow is All saints Day)

None of this going begging from door to door for free lollies .. that's Americanization shit ... what's "community" about that??

Just had one at our door...
Kid/s stood in the drive while mum or big sister knocked and told us "Halloween"
    Oh really?
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

My dog had a lovely evening barking at all the children just as they put their hand on the (locked) gate to try to open it.

Well we have kids livin with us again so we had lots of the wee darlings about the place shyly asking trick or treat and everyone shuffling their feet not 'quite' knowing what its really all about. Its a bit of a laugh - generally its only kids that know our grandkids or kids from up the road so its all good.

Its one night - its a bit of a giggle - kids LOVE it so stop getting your panties in a knot about it. As for the americanisation of NZ? Oh FFS - I'd say your average trip to a: the movies, B; watching TV, C: HOG rally, D: Hot Rod show would be way worse... Oh - lets ban fast food as well...

Maybe we should all go for a ride on our locally produced motorcyces and..... oh....

I took the boy (Dhishan) next door tricker treating last night I was all dressed up as a zombie cow girl even did all the zombie make up and dark bood coming out from the mouth and around the top black around the eyes even got the cow boy hat.The boy next door went as a zombie too all dressed in black and had the face Mask. When he knocked on the door I reminded him he has to do a trick or a treat before he gets any lollies so he did he was really good he always said thank you after to.

I was actually quite amazed how many people are getting into the sprit of Halloween now especially if you do it on the main road we went into this large complex that had all these large town houses in we came back with half a bluging bag full of just lollies, chocolate mini bars The people were giving handful of lollies not just a few funny thing was we we even got a whole packet of double chocolate Tim Tams.I saw alot of children in full costum with also older kids taking them around dressed up to.
Even the dairy up the road was giving lollies to the children and adults for Halloween not just a few either.

Dhishan was really good when we did get home he said to me if I would like to have any of the lollies to take home I just said no thanks you enjoy them he had some family members at his house. But I must admit we did have a little moro bar during the night and he had a few lollies to.

Great learning experience. Ba humbug!

One bird was waltzing around in a leopard skin leotard complete with tail and ears... I'm upvoting Halloween!

I like Halloween - the giving that is, not the pavement pounding. Guess its just the kid in me that never grew up. Our neighboorhood is perfect for it too as we get a lot of kids (mostly under 10yo having a playground, park, primary school and daycare within 300m). Probably saw about 50 kids last night in total and thats only the ones that came up the drive. One year I decorated the front of the house, kids would see it from half way up the street and come running and screaming. Now they recognize me on the street and know my house (hopefully they'll refrain from knocking over my letter box when they get older).

I went through about 1 and a half bags of Party mix and pineapple lumps (1.2kg bags) so about $10 worth from the Warehouse. Next year my 2.5 yo will be old enough to take trick or treating so I'll probably have to do the dress up/door knocking thing.

The day I get too old or bitter to enjoy making kids happy will be the time to put me into a retirement home.
