Just to add something into the India/NZ differences - cost of maintenance is generally much higher here than what is in Asia, so in case of servicing, fixes - just keep that in mind.
But best you also sit on some of those bikes you are eyeing. I had a few options after some research, but after taking some of them for a ride, how it feels, comfort (or lack of), weight, etc - changes from my impressions from just reading up about them.
Also if you're new to NZ, you may want to do some touring on it - so perhaps factor in how comfy the sportbike seats are for long distance.
TBH, my thou is a pussy cat to ride as well. But it will bite hard if you get complacent. The 600 is a lot more of a pussy cat, and unlike the thou, you have to be 'on them' a lot more to make them bite. For example, the thou will highside you from 6000rpm. The 600 you'll need to be stringing out a lot more to get it to do the same.
OAB,
To be fair, it is a real pussy cat to somebody who knows what they are doing...
I may have been a little OTT re HP, as I was comparing my race bike to a 600 SS bike... Yes, forgot they are less than that in road trim... Okay, at least 100hp for any 600... Hell, they were making that 20 years ago.... and yes, it (92 CBR600) will bite your a$$ if you get it wrong.
I have a 04 zx10r and recently took a 05 zx636 for a ride. I found it kinda strange to have to really rev it out but once you got the thing singing it was great to ride. Both are easy to ride... both will bite you if your an idiot.. or maybe just think.. ill pin the throttle to nip past this car and all of a sudden everything is moving way faster than your brain. I dont see any problem going to a thou striaght away if the attitude is right.. the 'ive done illegal street racing' makes me think a 250 would be more suitable.

Some more info : "I am not a beginner" and as far as i keep the throttle in control the bike is not gonna bite me!! and i know how to do that!! All i wanted to know from this post is that which among the sporty is forgiving.. it turns out to be CBR600.. I think i got a fair idea about what is sporties all about!! Now i will read on nooks and corners, may be i will start another thread..
Thanks for that guys.. Wow I am loving this Biker Forum..
Welcome, my currymunching friend.
Your experiences fighting traffic in India dont translate that well over here. High speed roads and twisty stretches, not to mention fast moving traffic are probably a little different to what happens in India.
However, I dont see any issue with anyone riding a 600 once they have some experience riding, they dont have a dangerously powerful low and mid range, so they are rather docile until you start putting the hammer down.
Oh and, thanks for the lols everyone![]()
I eat Indian food but dont mistake me for a punjabi!!!
And yeh the traffic conditions are different back in India but we have open roads too, like how you guys have motorways.. Atleast you guys follow lanes while moving fast but thats not the case in India bro, they wanna move all over the road and also wanna take opposite lanes most of the timesIts fun and dangerous to ride on Indian roads.. But i have done and most of us have done like 140ks on those little bikes which is not made for speed.. I never had an accident so far (touch wood
) and i dont wanna have one in future as well..
I think what ever we do, end of the day its all about sensible riding..
You reckon the latest R6 are peaky ? But Yamaha_YZF-R6 Wiki says a different story.. Are you sure about what you are saying ?
skdeepak88, why don't you just test-ride everything and buy what you like best?
kiwibiker is full of love, an disrespect.
