    Fair enough comments.
I know from experience there is a lot that goes into organising a meeting and you can NEVER NEVER NEVER please everyone. But from where I sit (5000 miles away) it looks to me that ,more often than not, when there is a hold up or time delay the buckets (that pay the same amount of entry $'s per head but often far out number a lot of the 'real bike' classes entry numbers) get reduced laps or practise sessions or get lumped in with some other class. Having that happen to you after paying the best part of $200 is a hard pill to swallow.
Not a dig at anyone or any club in particular, just what I see going on.

It'ss not having a dig, it's a case of we've had Taumaranui, Tokoroa, Te Puke and have Kaitoke next. We committed to the N.I rounds at the start and we'll do them. I haven't enjoyed any of the racing on the big tracks - HD and Taupo with my F4 bike. The F4 bike was usually playing up, except at the GP 6 months ago, when I just got intimidated to hell by everyone coming past and had no fun. I had a ball in F5. I've paid for F4 & F5 at Taupo last year and raced one class (not the club's problem), I've had the bike crap out so I couldn't race at Taupo the year before after paying for (again, not the club's problem), my bike wasn't really running well at HD and I hated it (and got told it was all in my head and to HTFU).

I've just not really had fun and therefore don't want to spend $ I can spend doing other away rounds for something I'm not really cut out for. My choice. We're having a ball with the N.I. rounds and if I decide I don't want to race, I'm still having a great time.

We've been on the organising end for years with dirt bike events, which have been harder work, as we've had to cut trails, stick arrows up, trim branches, paint stumps, put bunting up blah blah blah, we've had people bitch about cost and tell us we're making a killing. All the profits went back to the club to help with other events etc. We paid for our petrol, our food, our chainsaws, etc, and did it because we had fun doing it.

I don't begrudge any club making some profit from each event and hope they do, as it helps the sport, and I have no problem with volunteers being paid if that helps get them.

I am not slagging Nigel or the Pac Club off, it's just too much money at the moment for us, as we've chosen to do other things.

As to Str8 saying they'll be there next week - have I mentioned dearest, I hate you. You're encouraging Henk and I'm thinking it could be good fun, and I dunno, because I've got a shit load of things I should be doing, but it's all boring, and I spend enough time at work with boring stuff to do, that you're making it way tempting to say, shove fiscal responsibility (hey, they're big words that someone's trying to teach me), and be damned with it, but then the cat looks at me with his big grumpy eyes saying "for god's sake, can you stay home with me for a change".

Hey Michelle - we are only going because we were asked to go up and help. We would not be going otherwise so don't be too jealous!!

I know why you're going and think it's way cool. I love the atmosphere at bucket events, otherwise Henk wouldn't have been able to get me into it. It's not that I enjoy racing lol (I enjoy riding my bike, just not into racing). It'll be a fun event, hanging out with Stroud, Choppa, Drew and all those other top riders

He Rich remember F4 still have a race, so you're ok. F5 don't.

Buckets don't need to run with prize money. F1 does. Transponders? Don't need em if they are $70 ea.

Where did you see a prize money scale on the entry form? That would suggest there is no prize money. Transponders, you've borrowed one for the event so youve saved $70 there? And now no F5 youve saved yourself another $70 on entry there, thats a $140 saving which I havent been able to do let alone the new rear tyre, shop bill, springs in front & back, pads levers etc etc for my other bike, let alone starting on the bucket. It comes back to me choosing to do this as I want to do it.
I'll say it again, its cheaper entering this GP than what it was for any other NZ GP class down at Ruapuna earlier this year.

ok lets talk Ruapuna. Its considerably more expensive than the battle of the buckets. Why? Why do we need to run alongside all the larger classes?

My concern is obviously that we don't get to race F5 GP this year. But also that it is the beginning of the end.

A lot of you guys won't remember seeing the Sidecars race. As soon as the GPs for them stopped then so effectively did the class.

F5 numbers have always been less than F4. Everyone wants that extra mind altering power or somesuch. But I've also had the best racing in F5. Back a whole bunch of years Fishe used to regularly race the 50 & with Hamish.L , Jay & myself we used to have a humdinger every race. In front of the all the F4 class I might add.

Just when F5 seem to be undergoing a resurgence with for example a bunch of bikes being fettled in Auckland. AndrewA with a 50 that needs to be finished, but I can't see people coping with an expensive race & then having to stump up $70 extra to race F5 as well.

Realistically (and with examples) people decided not to race either both classes or one.

Yes I was lucky & very grateful that Mike lent me his Transponder. Guess what?, that was the turning point for me having enough money to enter both classes.

Saved another $70, what by having the race cancelled? WTF kind of logic is that? Lets cancel all bucket meetings, think of how much we'd all save. We could take up macrame.

I had to google that, looks quite neat.

How many F5 bikes are in sheds?
Could a few be dragged along as loaners to get numbers. It's late to be thinking of this shit for this year but not impossible.
I can think of two decent RG50's that would be ready to go, I'll hit the owners up for a loan of them for next year. (Iv'e already written off this year due to finances, but someone else might be able to make a go of it...

I'm not disagreeing with you entirely but here is my take.

F5 is dying on a national level for a couple of reasons.
    1. There are no reasonably recent easy build bikes available.
    2. Roy's hill - A and B grades, Kaitoke - A, B, C grades. Unless you live in Auckland there is no real point going through the hassle of building one when you could get an FXR instead.

The recent mini resurgence up here is because we run F4, F5, B grade and F5 is a much better place to get started than B if you aren't comfortable being out on track with guys running times not far off mid pack A grade times.

Having said all that I have built one recently and have another in progress and the B grade race I rode last time we were in Wellington on Michelle's F5 bike was one of the most enjoyable races I've had on a bucket.

As an aside most of the bikes getting built up here are never going to give either you or the Diprose clan a run for your money, low power, low stress diesels seem to be the order of the day. I tried to get my hands on a two stroke project for F5 for about 12 months but they all seem to have disapeared.

Oh and for the record, I don't think $170 is out of the question expensive, what put us off was the cost of four entries across the two of us and the timing with Te Puke and Kaitoke being not far on either side of it.

    Track time on Friday

Anyone got an idea if we are able to get on the track on friday? I thought I saw it somewhere here. Cost etc. I suppose it would be full tack? Good for getting the main jet dialed I suppose.
