There was a large turn out of 1 last night, including myself. However I still had a great time learning.
I chose to wear my nylon rain over-suit. In case you haven't ridden with such a rain suit on before, they are like ice skating. You get no grip against the bike at all. So you tend to adopt a riding style that doesn't require you to need to apply pressue with your body against the tank as a result. In my case, I tended to put a little bit more weight on the pegs so my bum doesn't put as much weight on the seat. That helps stop me sliding around so much (otherwise your bum just ice skates over the seat).
I also made sure to keep my arms loose and nice and relaxed.
I think I am going to try and glue some rubber strips on the rain suit around the inside of the legs to help in the future.
The old Riverhead-Coatesville ride we normally did had a lot of water on the road. So I tended to ride a modified line staying to parts of the road that I could see (as opposed to all the shiny patches covered in water).
Even so I still managed to have one fun moment around a corner with a small amount of lean on. First I heard the engine RPM drop. Then I heard a "woosh" sound, then a saw a spray of white out of the corner of my eye, and finally the sensation of the rear wheel stepping out. About 2 seconds later all of this information arrived at my brain ready for a decision to be made, but alas by then the bike had already corrected itself and there was nothing to do as I pulled out of the corner.
I also managed to get the back end twitching coming up to one intersection when changing down (note to self - need more blipping when changing down in heavy rain as compared to the dry - or to change down more gently).
For the second Wednesday in a row the car park had quite a few cars in it. I noticed that Spotlight and Kathmandu were open (Kathmandu was just closing). It doesn't seem like enough stores to explain all the cars though, especially in such terrible weather. If it happens a third Wednesday in a row we might need to start looking for another safer car park.
whoa this thread is old, but do they still run these training sessions?
i'd love to come along
alright! just show up then? oooh rats, id better get my wof first ay, hehe
Well I am actually working tomorrow evening so hope to make it along to the car park. If the weather is good I'll allow a little longer on the assumption people will be out enjoying the weather on a longer ride. See you there unless I get stuck at a crash or something.
I'll be there tomorrow, Got my hands on a sound meter as well so bring your noise bikes people and we will see if they will pass the proposed noise restrictions at pupuke.
Weather is looking good, I'll be out tonight, see you all there!
anyone riding?
Greg and I should be out.
