Went for a stroll over to Gebbies via the Summit road today. From discussions on this thread it sounded as if the grit was ankle deep so I just had to go and have a look for myself. I went Dyers Pass, Summit Road to Gebbies. Rear tyre is getting thin, picked up some glass, oh bugger super low profile tyre.

The worst part of the road gritwise was Dyers Pass Road. Once I was past the Sign of The Kiwi, on the Summit Road, the grit started to disappear and by the second cattlestop, about a K or so, there wasn't any. The road was clear until after I turned off down Gebbies Pass, on The Blue Duck side, where there was a small amount of grit.

If you guys want to ride the Summit Road I would suggest going the way I did, if you can make it to the Sign of The Kiwi, you will be over the worst of the grit. What you will face is damp roads where the "sun don't shine". So take it slowly. I went over about midday and there was no ice. If Sunday is similar to today you should be ok icewise.

Travel safely and roll on WNR!!!!!!!!!!!!
And remember ...... if it hasn't got one of "Uncle Flip's" prosthetic kickers it isn't a real motorbike!!!

I'm really gutted to say that i won't be joining in tomorrow....

I was following a nana today who was indicating left who then decided to not only swing wide into my path but also slammed brakes on to use the old give way rules....

I had two choices... hit her or the road - chose the road to cushion impact and have broken my thumb/wrist in 3 places Thank god for decent safety gear or I would have been munted!!

Ride safe out there guys... will be back on road once insurance pays out and bones heal.

Well waited for awhile and only one other person turned up. I rode through the hills by myself anyway and they were really wet and covered in grit so no one really missed out.

I got the time wrong (for some reason had 11:30am in my mind!). Would be keen to meet and go for a ride in a couple of weeks.
