    Nanderthals are extinct ... in the evolutionary scale they were a dead end (literally) ... they lost out to Mother Nature ... can't have been that bright ..

    There are several theories about their fate. One of them is they interbred with the "new humans" of the time and so lived on albeit with altered DNA.
