I've known people who are genuine saints compared to him and who died three times more horribly and got fuck all. Its easy for the rich to be generous but when a poor man gives you everything he can that means something else.

The difference is hes a media figure and thus has access to a zillion more ears than I do.

Yes Kiwis bludgeon some people. Usually these are people who have behaved poorly and then accuse everyone of this tall poppy syndrome when they find out that no - the great unwashed don't think you are super amazing actually. I don't think it actually exists. Some successful people like ARE not very nice - poppies have fuck all to do with it.

I'm not an uncharitable person (or I like to think I'm not) but I see no reason to change an opinion I have held for a long time because of a pretty everyday passing.

If there is a message here - Look at the stats for prostrate cancer and go get the doc to look up your bum...
Nowadays you get a blood test and then if it indicated high you get the finger...

Paul Holmes (Sir) is a human being, a dying human being. Part of being a human, is that, you alone are the creator of your mistakes, knowing how to correct those mistakes however, makes you superior to those who dont give a fuck.
Holmes is no exception, he has made more than his share of faux pas over the years, I believe his knighthood has merit, more so than a depressed ex All black.

It must be a very very tough time for his family and friends at the moment, seeing a loved loose his/her battle with a cancer, is the worst thing.......ever.

Bwhahahaha ... quite to the contrary my good sir ...

Unfortunately, many people here are of the opinion that the views expressed by the created persona here are the views of the real person typing on the keyboard. They are frequently mistaken in that view.

The views and attitudes expressed here may or may not have been held by the real person on the keyboard at some time in the past 57 years ... they may or may not be the current views of the real person on the keyboard ... or they may be only a part of the views the real person holds ...

Do not mistake the persona for the reality - the two are only lightly connected.

I'm here for my own amusement and I am amused frequently by what I read here. I honestly don't give a fuck about the rest ...

I agree. I'm not so fussed on Knighthoods etc. as there are so many unsung heroes in this world who perform incredible feats of courage and humanity every day, but to suffer and die in this manner truly is horrible and I have lost friends and family this way. My Father-in-law was scared stiff of dying and despite being very anti- religious all his life, insisted on our daughter reading to him from the Bible every day.

And a member of the Fourth Estate - you now - the Lords Temporal, The Lords Spiritual, the Commons - and the Fourth Estate is the media .. an estate not generally erecogtnised as having power (Unlike the other three) but wth heaps of power non-the-less.

Nothing "tall poppy" about that - a purely Marxist/Anarchist-based sociological analysis of his position and power in New Zealand Society ... Furry Muff! I'm not into the Marxism theories, myself. Perhaps I don't know enough to understand them. Perhaps I used think that way as a young'un before I realised certain things about the world.
I'm all about critical thinking - question everything. I'm also all about people that are real and make an effort in our society. Some have the ability and infamy to enact or cause change and recognised for it, some seek or lack neither and are not.

I think you'll find amongst your list there are some names with some rather well known history, in relation to how they've treated people in the past, too.

But far be it for me, to rubbish them.

"many a true word is spoken in jest"

You are either a troll that spends far to much time on here as you have no life or you are a complete fucktard that cares little for his fellow man and revels in others suffering.

Either way you are worth neither time or effort.

Theres been many times when I have watched a Holmes interview with terminally ill people and cringed at his questions to them. I often wonder if after he became sick himself he realised how daft and patronising he could be. Yup, for sure many times I thought he was an obnoxious wee garden gnome but many times Ive watched , laughed and smiled. I would never wish anyone a death from cancer and especially at what is these days a young age.

I'm amused by many things - my own reactions as much as other people's reactions ... I do also have a fairly typical Aspergers tendency to say what hops into my head - in "real life" I do moderate that to some extent - Here, I don't bother - I Just let rip ... very satisfying ...

It is, I think, important to note my Avatar picture - Pan, the powerful, uncontrollable anarchic spirit of the universe (I could just have easily used the Buddhist Monkey - but western people wouldn't get it) and my tag line "Anarchic Wild Child" ... paints the picture I intend.

Where do you get this stuff? Pan was the Greek god of nature, shepherds and flocks not a powerful anarchic spirit of the universe.

The Buddist Monkey king according to the classic Chinese novel did had supernatural powers though.
